Intoxicated by this album which (a) came out a few months ago; but which (b) I only just heard this week; but which in turn (c) is not surprising, since apart from the fact that it's available to stream may as well not even exist as far as the internet is concerned.
A dozen reference points occurred to me and then were discarded. I have settled on: "imagine The Raincoats' Moving (their little-known but excellent 1984 album), if the bandmembers grew up listening obsessively to the movie soundtrack to Cabaret - it's a weird mix of found-sound-world smear and Weimar sneer, the splatter of rain drops merging with the patter of bon mots. But Edwiin's always-sarcastic, slightly-leering but not-terribly-declamatory vocals are more Siouxsie than Liza. At their best the arrangements are really something to behold, these living, rippling, writhing creatures whose origin is a mystery to me.
I can't look them up (because, again, this album may as well not exist), but the lyrics are frequently excellent also, in this kind of stagey, camp free-association mode, as if Edwiin is in a dreamlike stupor attempting to manifest the absolute worst person you know.
Listen if you also like: Gudrun Gut, Veda Hille, Earwig, Pram, High Places, Katie Gately.

Anyway I’m gonna intermittently bump this thread until someone pays attention.
Another reference point that occurred to me is early Cristina - “Fig” even sounds a bit like it could have been recorded at Compass Point.

This is fantastic, thank you for street teaming!
Re cabaret/Weimar I'd add Dagmar Krause/Slapp Happy and Brigitte Fontaine to your Listen if you like list.

Shit, you're not kidding. Tried googling to find out more about it, this thread is the top result, and aside from spotify there's... nothing? How did you find out about it?

I’ve been assembling off and on a Spotify playlist of female-centric music from 2024 (called ‘Binders Full’ b/c I am an idiot) and the algorithm started pressuring me to add songs from this.
