ILM Listening Club --- collaborative playlists: HOME / CLUB

Here is an idea that has been bubbling on the ILM LISTENING CLUB thread for those who have not been aware of it:

The ILM listening club sprung out as in idea to substitute the now defunct turntable/plug/outloud live sessions on ilm. For those who are not familiar with them, they were websites were ilm users would queue tracks in real time for other users to listen to. Sort of like a radio live session curated by ilm users.

The current ILM Listening Club is restricted to 2023 tracks as to find exciting music from the current year that might go underlooked and as some sort of campaigning for things you’ve enjoyed this year come EOY polls.

This thread is for a listening club with no restrictions in genre or decade. Separated only by two moods:

So, the idea is two collaborative playlists fed by ILM recommendations. In one playlist we recommend music fit for party mode - or say music you’d normally play at social gatherings without making most people head for the door - and the other is more freeform, just stuff you’d recommend to listen in a more introspective setting.

So in one playlist we would recommend stuff such as - but not limited to - salsa, disco, cumbia, hip hop, funk, punk, house, reggaeton, pop, edm, trap, afrobeats, etc… and in the other we’d recommend stuff such as - but again not limited to - ambient, idm, folk, freejazz, drone, avant-pop, vaporwave, noise, math rock, psychedelic rock, minimal techno, etc…

There’s no contest if a song is better suited for the opposing playlist… some genres like say r&b or country could be suited for both home and club listening… it’s up to your criteria where to add them. If you think a 20 min sludge metal track makes for a dancefloor filler, well why not?

Also no restrictions on the number of tracks you want to add, I’d even encourage to post two or three tracks to set a vibe that might or might not be disrupted by the following person. That said, please try not to add too many tracks at once so it doesn’t become a solo session.

I won’t be making separate threads for each playlist. Please just note where your recommendations should be added. I’ll give a headstart for the format:

Tullio de Piscopo - Stop Bajon (primavera)
Instant Funk - I Got My Mind Made Up
Two Man Sound - Que Tal Americsa

Joseph Shabason - Heart Broken Kota

Here’s the links to the Spotify playlists:

I won’t be adding songs on any other streaming services… I’m aware some of your recommendations (such as edits or bootleg remixes) might not be available on Spotify, please post them either way. If someone else wants to compile and share the playlists on youtube/tidal/apple/whatever please do so.

Nag!x3: hell yes! A friend recommended it to me like 15 years ago. It’s a great country-tinged rock album from the 70s. No idea why they never took off, it’s a great debut. They made a follow-up (and final) album which I have never listened to.

Moka, I like how you just rolled with it when other ilxors ignored the premise that these should be 2023 tracks. I would have been like “come oooonnnn, there are RUUUULES” and harshed the vibe. And it became instantly the de facto Deep Cuts playlists thread.

lethbridge-pfunkboy (hardcore dilettante), Friday, 24 November 2023 00:47 (one week ago) link

I didn’t! there’s a 2023 listening club playlist too!

ILM 2023 Listening Club

That said; These two playlists are more interesting and have potential to roll on for longer, happy with the result so far I’ve discovered some great music thru it.
