Rema song goes down easily but not dislodging the two epics from my mind

imago, Wednesday, 22 February 2023 21:56 (one year ago) link

xps it's aggressively annoying

ⓓⓡ (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 22 February 2023 21:56 (one year ago) link

Find it amusing how unpredictable the top 10 seems. You have already mentioned #1 numerous times and #78 in this thread but there’s still a “?” On #1.

It's Kate Bush but this time for real

Nabozo, Wednesday, 22 February 2023 21:56 (one year ago) link

Still better than Get Lucky.

iirc there was some misdirection in the first Carly placement

Btw I would have totally predicted “somewhere near marseilles” would be #1 and would’ve been fine with it. It sounds like a super ilm song to my ears.

I didn’t really thought it deserved the 10+ minutes at first but it eventually grew on me and think Floating Points’ production is mindblowing enough to deserve the length.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 22 February 2023 21:59 (one year ago) link

another producer credit there I should've twigged but didnt

nashwan, Wednesday, 22 February 2023 22:00 (one year ago) link

oh I didn't realise Floating Points was involved - I'll have to relisten

anyway, I like Somewhere Near Marseilles well enough but prefer some of the less amorphous tracks on the album

there’s some beautiful strings in the background around the 9-minute mark

Moka you actually did that prediction and it made me listen to it and I gave it two points, hope you're proud

Nabozo, Wednesday, 22 February 2023 22:01 (one year ago) link

Lol thanks nabozo

It’s not my favorite song of the year I think but I think it sounds very… elegant.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 22 February 2023 22:03 (one year ago) link

I felt this whole rollout was working towards a “Marseilles” number one

it’s okay tho

we’ll always have “Paris”

(I’ll never get tired of this extremely 2022 ILM joke)

Did Girlfriend seriously win? It's not another fakeout? Because that was one of two tracks I thought could beat Calm Down and it would be acceptable (the other being Feel My Rhythm, of course).

It seems like only yesterday that afro-pop was condemned to the lower part of the poll.
Sad that this comes at the price of number of voters bleeding out, but I'm doing a little dance here.

I'll never be a big fan of the "beats" part of Afrobeats, but at least this doesn't have the words/sounds repeating ad nauseam.

I don't mind the #1, but there was sure not much for me in this final stretch (I already knew & loved "Spud" – I suspect I was its sole voter last year – and was familiar w/"Calm Down," but prefer the version with Selena Gomez). These chilly club tracks, every year, I just don't get the appeal.
