i figured it out once the horrible vocals started

it was thee biggest song of 2020 in my house (i know it's from 2019), so got it in 1 second. i still love it, 'horrible' vocals and all - sorry!

I've failed Thursday's too now. Not sure I've failed twice in row before lol. A completely different type of studiously ignored thing this time.

i got it immediately as i usually do when i know the song at all. i'm pretty sure i shazammed the song back when it was first breaking, not because i liked it and was intrigued but because i wanted to know who on earth was responsible for this monstrosity (i've come to enjoy the song a little more now, mostly b/c i find it funny somehow)

seeing a lot of music people failing to get today's heardle. it's one of the biggest songs of the last five years, maybe the biggest! (though yes it is horrible) - not sure what this says about the position of mainstream pop.

in the us at least, it was undeniably a runaway streaming smash that young ppl would play at parties and such but it was obviously very polarizing to the older crowds, so while radio acknowledged it, they didn't keep it around as long or take it as high as they would have a comparably reactive song by a more down-the-middle act like maroon 5. by and large radio is what ratifies the most omnipresent of hits in america now, and what they play is also largely what you'll also hear as far as current music on tv commercials, at sports stadiums and the like as well. there are a lot of big hits in america now that plenty of older folks, even music-loving ones, won't be familiar with unless they put an active effort into keeping up with what the youngns like

in the uk it was on radio on heavy rotation for months and months.

They've only gone and ruined the UI. You used to be able to press skip while it was playing, so you didn't have to hear the first bits over and over again. Now pressing skip stops playback and sends it back to the beginning.

You can't see the historical stats for each track any more either, which was one of the most interesting bits for me.

i know the purchase was made a month and a half ago, but since the actual move to spotify.com this has felt annoyingly different.

the oldest song out the past 7 answers is from 2010. looking at the whole list of previous answers this is a clear shift. especially jeremy zucker/xxxtentacion/billie eilish three days in a row. i don't think i'm zoomer enough for this anymore.

…and thanks to this I just found there is a 00s.heardledecades one now too, for which I now have a 1/1 100% score - straight in at number one baby! (oh dear, and *two* different glitch.me 80s ones I didn’t know about, one of which I can’t actually open)

I had a hot streak one day of getting all of the '60s-'00s and regular Heardle in one second each. Unlikely to ever repeat that feat, even if only because at least one of the songs is unavailable in my location pretty much every day (and, as noted, regular Heardle is all new stuff now and I am an old).

I wonder how far ahead the results are planned with for Heardle.

With Wordle, it's essentially been going through the same word list since day one, with an estimated end of October 2027. During weeks with harder words, some people would speculate that it was because of the New York Times buyout, but that appears to have not changed a thing as you can search up copies of the word list from back in January and see that's it's still on track.

in other news, i frequently attempt the video game heardle and very rarely get it right (maybe like 4 times out of 30 or something lol). it’s fun to hear cool songs from games i’ve never even heard of

yeah i mostly stopped playing after they acquired it lol, i did want it to become a little harder but when i do check in it seems like they seem to overwhelmingly do rock songs now? boring

or songs that barely made the hot 100 but somehow have a billion streams

ime it's only been Billie Eilish once but Green Day at least 3 times if not 4

i think the best use of heardle is a conversation starter for a group of "non musically worldly" friends to play the same edition, share the results, and see how well each other know the songs.

sometimes i do the vampire weekend heardle to make sure i can identify every song from their first 3 albums.

there are now Heardles for the 50s and 20s (both a bit crappy tho), a (solid) 10s one has been there for a while.

Big tech company buys independent project, ruins it, closes it after a short time, we have heard this story many times before.

whatever, all the offshoot decade Heardles, 50s thru til 20s, are still around, at least 11 to play each day that I know of

there was a community thing of having just one heardle that isn't there with the thousands of variants, I guess if you are really into a band or a decade and have friends who are the same that might be OK, but it's not for me.
