At this time last year we did the tracks part of this poll and I decided not to do albums. I’m finally getting around to do the albums part of this poll. I started doing these Acclaimed Music series back in 2012 and if I had a chance to do it all over again I might not pick Acclaimed Music but it has been a pretty good reference point. This might be the last go around, my swansong, as I can’t see doing this decade in ten years time. Albums have pictures of movies for that year, so I’m excited about that. Expanding to a Top 40 plus this time around as I think this decade has some incredible albums that would probably miss a Top 25 or 30.

Hope to have some fun with these and it's back.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 11 May 2022 23:12 (one week ago) link

I like quite a few of these (Robyn, Janelle Monáe, Titus Andronicus, Big Boi) but ultimately went with Erykah Badu, a strong album likely overshadowed by its more dazzling predecessor.

Les hommes de bonbons (cryptosicko), Thursday, 12 May 2022 14:47 (one week ago) link

Kind of sad to see the top three - if someone told me at the time that all three would never make another great album of their own, I wouldn't have believed it. (I don't like Yeezus all that much and American Dream was a fine but lesser work.)

birdistheword, Thursday, 12 May 2022 14:59 (one week ago) link

voted for kanye. search your feelings, you know it to be true.

in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Thursday, 12 May 2022 15:20 (one week ago) link

There are a few that I thought about putting on here but rushed and forgot M.I.A., School of Seven Bells, Ciara, the Knife and the big one Spoon.

Bee OK, Thursday, 12 May 2022 18:10 (one week ago) link

Sorry everyone, but it’s Kanye

I didn’t realize Diddy was so high up on this list, are people finally coming around to that album?

(Outside of this board, of course)

special shout out to new amerykah 2

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 12 May 2022 18:48 (one week ago) link

I hope to never hear the top 2 albums on this list again.

Les hommes de bonbons (cryptosicko), Thursday, 12 May 2022 18:54 (one week ago) link

Voted for Robyn just ahead of Erykah and Gorillaz. A fair few of the albums on the list that I loved at the time, I haven't gone back to much (Big Boi, LCD, Lindstrøm, Kanye, Lindstrøm, The-Dream etc).

Radio Dept, Kelis, Twin Shadow, Susanne Sundfør, Future Islands, Owen Pallett, Best Coast, Kylie and Hot Chip are the albums from 2010 I still revisit a lot.

kitchen person, Thursday, 12 May 2022 21:22 (one week ago) link

voted for HOOM

winters (josh), Thursday, 12 May 2022 21:30 (one week ago) link

Probably would have voted for Owen Pallett’s Heartland had it been on the list.

Have One on Me was probably the last "new" record to really amaze me. But seeing that I've only heard two others on this list makes me realize I'll never catch up with what other people like.

Halfway there but for you, Friday, 13 May 2022 15:02 (one week ago) link

Last Train to Paris, just over Returnal.

Really like the Badu and the Emeralds albums but went with Joanna Newsom.

Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Friday, 13 May 2022 18:15 (one week ago) link

I didn't vote for it, but I remember liking MGMT's Congratulations more than I thought I would - a better album overall than their previous one.

And I still love Big Boi's album. I wonder if the version that was blocked (due to a few tracks with André 3000) has ever leaked, or if it can be accurately pieced together with what's out there.

birdistheword, Friday, 13 May 2022 18:24 (one week ago) link

"royal flush" and "lookin 4 ya" are very available, idk if there's a version of "the train pt. 2" with 3000's verse out there anywhere

one of these:

3 245 LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening
8 530 Janelle Monáe - The ArchAndroid
11 1051 Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
17 1328 Vampire Weekend - Contra
19 1464 Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty
21 1642 Sleigh Bells - Treats
24 2122 These New Puritans - Hidden
30 2691 The Roots - How I Got Over
32 2957 Erykah Badu - New Amerykah, Pt. 2 (Return of the Ankh)
40 - Emeralds - Does It Look Like I'm Here?

castanuts (DJP), Friday, 13 May 2022 18:58 (one week ago) link

I still listen to that Tame Impala album so that one.

bookmarkflaglink (Darin), Friday, 13 May 2022 22:44 (one week ago) link

Voted Swans because nobody else will (probably).

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Friday, 13 May 2022 22:52 (one week ago) link

for me, hard to choose between

4 - Beach House - Teen Dream
9 - Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me

also really like
25 - Actress - Splazsh
32 - Erykah Badu - New Amerykah, Pt. 2 (Return of the Ankh)
33 - Lindstrøm & Christabelle - Real Life Is No Cool
38 - Diddy – Dirty Money - Last Train to Paris
39 - Oneohtrix Point Never - Returnal

Glad that this has returned to finish up albums. My vote goes to the last great Arcade Fire album.

Robyn is by far the one of these I’m most likely to put on.

feel like the Big Boi joint WAS my summer of 2010 (one of the best summers of my life tbh).

so, that.

Deez NFTs (Neanderthal), Monday, 16 May 2022 01:34 (six days ago) link

would also ride for the Robyn, the Janelle Monae, The-Dream, Crystal Castles, Sleigh Bells, and the Yelawolf (lol remember when he was good)

Deez NFTs (Neanderthal), Monday, 16 May 2022 01:35 (six days ago) link

Lindstrøm & Christabelle (though I had my copy from Rough Trade in 2009)

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Monday, 16 May 2022 01:44 (six days ago) link

Halcyon Digest gets my vote, love that album to pieces

but a lot of strong albums, the LCD one is good, Badu is excellent, Body Talk is really a compilation but it's amazing... good year

corrs unplugged, Monday, 16 May 2022 06:55 (six days ago) link

Cool to see Dënver in that list
In my book, the only albums of AOTY calibre here are Newsom, Kanye and Big Boi.
Others: Warpaint, Luisa Maita, Tulipa Ruiz

Nabozo, Monday, 16 May 2022 07:50 (six days ago) link

There are quite a few that I like but nothing is screaming out for my vote here. Going to vote for [i[Contra[/i] just over New Amerykah, Pt. 2 (Return of the Ankh) and Body Talk.

Yes on all counts.

What happened with Deerhunter? I loved Monomania but I felt like the press and maybe a lot of fans suddenly became lukewarm towards them from that album on.

birdistheword, Monday, 16 May 2022 19:36 (six days ago) link

A number of my favorite albums from the decade -- Four Tet, Robyn, Beach House. Teen Dream takes it though.

Went with Deerhunter.

(Considered Emeralds.)

I've never heard most of these. (Surprise!) Don't really like nu-Swans, and the Badu is a slightly less good follow-up to an amazing record, so this is either gonna be Diddy or Gil Scott-Heron for me.

but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 16 May 2022 22:55 (six days ago) link

I've loved all of the Beach House records but think Teen Dream was their best

Halcyon Digest felt like the best Deerhunter album too, although Microcastle/Weird Era Continued from 2008 was also great

Dan S, Tuesday, 17 May 2022 00:35 (five days ago) link

I *want* to love New Amerykah part 2 but it feels like it falls off in its second half :/

josh az (2011nostalgia), Tuesday, 17 May 2022 07:29 (five days ago) link

I thought High Violet was the National's best album, and How I Got Over is still one of the Roots' best albums - too bad they got no votes, but the competition was too much.

birdistheword, Tuesday, 17 May 2022 14:12 (five days ago) link

xp I'd only say that's the case with "Incense"

Eggs Benedick (Eric H.), Tuesday, 17 May 2022 14:20 (five days ago) link

there's gonna be a lot of slow singing and flower bringing
if i keep hearing return of the ankh falls off in the second half

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 17 May 2022 15:03 (five days ago) link

i appreciate "incense"'s decisive break toward jazz fusion, harp and vocals painted stroke by stroke, the right way to transition into "out my mind" imo

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 17 May 2022 15:05 (five days ago) link

def considered voting for the roots, how i got over is prob their best latter-day album

in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 17 May 2022 15:08 (five days ago) link

Four Tet deserved better but glad to see Teen Dream do so well

I actually voted for that Roots album that year.

Legalize Suburban Benches (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 17 May 2022 16:04 (five days ago) link

My top ten would probably have (in no particular order) Deerhunter, Robyn, Kanye, Big Boi, Arcade Fire, Janelle Monáe, LCD Soundsystem, the National, the Roots and MGMT...but I feel like there's at least two or three other albums I'd want to include that aren't in that poll.
