Fanta big in Nigeria?

Daniel_Rf, Thursday, 21 April 2022 08:33 (five months ago) link

about that - from the Jams of Summers Past category:
Alpha Blondy • Sweet Fanta Diallo

who's to say which kind of Fanta Rema had in mind?

Fanta big in Nigeria?

― Daniel_Rf, Thursday, April 21, 2022 4:33 AM (three hours ago)

yes, afaict, and if the internet is right it is sweeter than US/UK bottles

rob, Thursday, 21 April 2022 12:32 (five months ago) link

I'd post a track, but Calm Down was my first & only idea too lol

rob, Thursday, 21 April 2022 12:33 (five months ago) link

The Rema album will last all summer

haven't listened to much of karol g's music and i didn't find some of her big hits especially memorable but "provenza" is amazing

Can definitely confirm that.
Carla Morrison - Diamantes

Nabozo, Saturday, 7 May 2022 20:53 (four months ago) link

Provenza should have a thread of its own, it's phenomenal

corrs unplugged, Sunday, 8 May 2022 09:00 (four months ago) link

"Diamantes" is extremely my thing, thank you! Early summer jam.

here's another pop song that's lighting up my May: Tove Lo's "No One Dies From Love"

sean gramophone, Sunday, 8 May 2022 17:18 (four months ago) link

Yeah really like “Provenza”.

Bad Bunny’s new album filled with potential summer jams.

Particularly fond of “andrea” because I really like how he mixed the Buscabulla sound into his own.

Both “provenza” and “andrea” remind me of “passionfruit”

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 9 May 2022 00:21 (four months ago) link

yeah it's that low key vibe, the sound of being completely at ease at a party, very well executed

"andrea" is great, thanks for the recommendation!

corrs unplugged, Monday, 9 May 2022 07:00 (four months ago) link

Find it interesting how Bad Bunny is on it’s way to be the #2 most streamed artist of all time on spotify and there are still countries like the UK where he is virtually unknown. He’d probably dethrone Drake as the most streamed artist of all time if he cared about doing singles/collabs in english a la Shakira.

Fun fact I learned yesterday: apparently he is the biggest indie artist working today (and probably one of the biggest of all time). He ditched big labels in 2018 and has been managed and signed to an indie label (Rimas Entertainment) from puerto rico ever since.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 9 May 2022 08:54 (four months ago) link

reminds me when I travelled in India and people could not believe I was not familiar with SRK, which of course I became, but yeah you can grow up in European mainstream culture and just never be exposed to stars that are ubiquitous in other territories

feel like probably young people in Europe would be familiar with Bad Bunny

corrs unplugged, Monday, 9 May 2022 09:08 (four months ago) link

i find the YouTube top 100 global list a helpful mental corrective to "what's big":

peep the disney and eminem!

sean gramophone, Monday, 9 May 2022 13:07 (four months ago) link

Yeah, I would have never guessed that Rammstein was able to draw this level of global attention in 2022. I was fourteen when I was listening to Mutter and Live aus Berlin on my brand new blinking stereo. It lasted less than a year, I can't imagine how they endured 20 more years for the rest of my generation.
I was also surprised to find that the video for 'Calm Down' was top 50 in my country (Switzerland) while our African diaspora is like 1% and almost none of it English-speaking.
Also by pretending I'm based in South Africa I'm using the YT trending feature to follow the scene there, just like I occasionally check the top Shazamed.
Basically juggling with algorithms, I understand music fans who consider it a plague, but it's fascinating at social level and in terms of "taste formation".

Paul Van Dyk at 39! This is a plot twist to me

boxedjoy, Monday, 9 May 2022 14:21 (four months ago) link

That song came out in 2020, too!

nice caribbean pan steel drum comes in at one point on the reggaeton pop track by Zion & Lennox and Danny Ocean "Brisa"

curmudgeon, Thursday, 2 June 2022 02:02 (three months ago) link

wow yes sign me up

sean gramophone, Thursday, 2 June 2022 02:05 (three months ago) link

Ah yes I was playing that a lot a month ago. Reminds me a lot of Ninetoes - Finder (which samples The Path).

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 2 June 2022 06:45 (three months ago) link

These songs - which are not 2022 summer jams - but are amazing if you don’t know them:

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 2 June 2022 06:49 (three months ago) link

…and The Path leads back to this:
Ralph MacDonald • The Path (1978)

the source material(s) is/are much older still, I’m sure.

(the videos Moka posted are Concept Neuf’s “The Path” from 1979 and “Finder” by Ninetoes from 2013)

but “Brisa” is delightful, for sure!

(its beat is very reminiscent of Axel Rulay’s “Si Es Trucho Es Trucho” btw, a modern classic that one)

Underlying synth also sounds a bit like Passionfruit. So this and Provenza but share that in common.

Anyways, yeah love it. Hope it becomes a massive hit in latinamerica.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 2 June 2022 13:40 (three months ago) link

At this rate it’s becoming unlikely it will tho unless it’s a sleeping giant :/ both Provenza and Brisa came out a month ago and the difference in views and streams is 20:1

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 2 June 2022 13:43 (three months ago) link

Yeah, Karol G "Provenza" is more widely popular . Oh well

curmudgeon, Monday, 6 June 2022 21:22 (three months ago) link

the new Nakamura is fantastic, love the beat and everything about it, will undoubtedly work wonders as a Summer Jam too:
Aya Nakamura ft. Damso • Dégaine

You (ilm) were very right about "You Could Be" by Anz. Sounds like summer imo.
