anthems for the microdosed at dusk // hybrid jewels of indie-rock and/or dance-pop, album sees no significant difference between the two // guitar lines and vocal melodies erupt from the mix as electric antlers would from a skull // depressive psychic maelstroms of songs about the impermanence howling around everyone you love // album of the year

lmao i thought i wrote 2021 in the title

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Thursday, 5 August 2021 17:52 (two years ago) link

... and now i have

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Thursday, 5 August 2021 17:57 (two years ago) link

given the fact that they dropped 5 singles for this, i'm hoping this album is 20 tracks long

bezos did the dub (voodoo chili), Thursday, 5 August 2021 20:41 (two years ago) link

If you listen to this and the new Lingua Ignota then you do indeed get twenty tracks!

imago, Thursday, 5 August 2021 20:52 (two years ago) link

Have put NMG on to prepare. What a sly grower it's truly proven to be

imago, Thursday, 5 August 2021 20:56 (two years ago) link

"cold blooded" is my favorite song and not just because there's an entire verse about listening to enya

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Thursday, 5 August 2021 20:56 (two years ago) link

weird album, nowhere near as immediate as nearer my god, but that was obviously going to be the case from the singles

ufo, Friday, 6 August 2021 00:26 (two years ago) link

found it way more immediate than nearer my god, it’s just nonstop hooks

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Friday, 6 August 2021 02:35 (two years ago) link

not that it's not weird, it's just nearer my god shifted between a lot of sounds over 50 minutes. this is a very focused 39

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Friday, 6 August 2021 04:52 (two years ago) link

opening track goes absolutely *wild*, hope it stays like this

imago, Friday, 6 August 2021 08:06 (two years ago) link

yeah this is all hooks, time will tell if I prefer it, hard to beat NMG's rangy ambition but it's pretty damn good

imago, Friday, 6 August 2021 08:26 (two years ago) link

Bialystok is a particularly stunning production job. There's hardly a song there but it somehow kills

imago, Friday, 6 August 2021 11:45 (two years ago) link

every song is a hit

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Friday, 6 August 2021 12:53 (two years ago) link

"beacons" one of the best coming out songs i've ever heard, obv a lot of competition there

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Friday, 6 August 2021 13:13 (two years ago) link

Liking this new one a lot. I'm so curious as to where they take this project and they always seem to deliver. I agree, this feels like a really focused version of what they were doing with NMG. An emo band that has morphed into a stadium pop band but the quality hasn't dipped. Impressive stuff.

there's interesting stuff going on here but the melodies largely just aren't delivering for me

ufo, Friday, 6 August 2021 22:44 (two years ago) link

this album also kinda reminds me of the con

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 August 2021 22:42 (two years ago) link

Huge grower yet again (for me at least)

imago, Wednesday, 11 August 2021 18:00 (two years ago) link

This band shows the value of having very, very fine attention to detail in arrangements and sonics

imago, Wednesday, 11 August 2021 18:01 (two years ago) link

There are, apparently, thoughts today.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 18 August 2021 17:58 (two years ago) link

thought is an illusion

aegis philbin (crüt), Wednesday, 18 August 2021 18:06 (two years ago) link

if it's attracting this much attention maybe a negative review is better for them than anything i could've done lol

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Wednesday, 18 August 2021 18:13 (two years ago) link

Start trashing your favorite bands, then they'll feel the love

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 18 August 2021 18:15 (two years ago) link

That p4k review is very very funny to me. I can't name a single song by any of the bands they accuse DDtM of not being better than (I remember some of my friends liking Passion Pit circa 2008, but I had less than zero interest in that style of music at the time). Just a classic case of being unable to glimpse the actual tunes through the forest of stylistic comparisons.

I will try to receive it in the generous spirit of "Here are some older records to check out if you like the new Foxing album" rather than the cranky ennui-ridden spirit of having-nothing-nice-to-say it was likely written in (:

i don't really like this record but it's a weird review. i can hear the passion pit comparison (especially since it's an admitted influence) but it's only vague, one of many ingredients in the mix. the uk indie comparisons on the other-hand seem pretty off-base? comparing it to the wombats is really insulting, one of the very worst landfill indie bands who were bafflingly prominent especially here, & two door cinema club were always very lightweight indie pop, not the sort of anthemic indie music that foxing are referencing? if this album had sounded more like foals i probably would like it more, they never quite delivered on their potential over a full album so i'd love someone to make something that sounded like them except better. all i really hear though is some similar rhythmic guitar parts but those aren't exactly something foals invented.

ufo, Thursday, 19 August 2021 07:49 (two years ago) link

i just wish the melodies did anything for me at all

ufo, Thursday, 19 August 2021 07:56 (two years ago) link

one year passes...

shame no one likes this record. “beacons” made me cry today

ivy (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 June 2023 20:12 (ten months ago) link

and every successive song on the record also makes me cry

ivy (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 June 2023 20:17 (ten months ago) link

hey I like it!

imago, Wednesday, 21 June 2023 20:24 (ten months ago) link

It's high summer, Foxing season, will relisten soon

imago, Wednesday, 21 June 2023 20:24 (ten months ago) link

beacons is amazing and i would like to make a hip typography print of the lyrics to the chorus and give it to my partner as an important gift because i think it would be well received so this is on my list of things i gotta do
