Full text of option 3 is "I know the song "Jump" by Kris Kross, the song "Warm it up" by Kris Kross, and one or more additional songs by Kris Kross. I am an unhealthily obsessed, backward denim-wearing Krossmaniac."

Um i had Totally Krossed Out on cassette and enjoyed the fukk out of it, where is THAT option

Filibuster Poindexter (Neanderthal), Thursday, 6 May 2021 02:19 (two years ago) link

you are option 3

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Thursday, 6 May 2021 02:21 (two years ago) link

no i want an option tailored to exactly what I just said. will not vote until it is there!

Filibuster Poindexter (Neanderthal), Thursday, 6 May 2021 02:21 (two years ago) link

Uh, Totally Krossed out was the first rap record I owned. I'm afraid the second was a cassingle of 'Whoomp! there it is'. To this day I only know the words to about a dozen or so songs in full, reliably and unfailingly, and one of them is 'Whoomp! there is is'.

Anyway, I know all the songs on Totally Krossed out, though not quite all the words and I'm not enough of a bona fide Krossmaniac to have purchased Da Bomb.

I had the I Missed the Bus cassingle and can still rap it from memory

Filibuster Poindexter (Neanderthal), Thursday, 6 May 2021 02:28 (two years ago) link

but you're never never never never gonna do that again

bobo honkin' slobo babe (sic), Thursday, 6 May 2021 02:31 (two years ago) link

second and third albums both have legitimately great tracks scattered throughout.

yes, i am a fan.

it would have been more fair of me to have a category for people who owned Totally Krossed Out (probably a lot of ilxors) and then for true Krossomaniacs who go beyond that. But I designed this poll to be unfair.

I also forgot about the song "I Missed the Bus." I am clearly not a Krossomaniac.

Oh, I voted for "Jump"/"Warm It Up" but I also remember "I Missed the Bus".

Sequel to Sadness (Sund4r), Thursday, 6 May 2021 02:42 (two years ago) link

Tried "Jump" during DPA or something for many of my junior-age classes, but they never responded like I hoped they would...Option 2, because I only dimly remember "Warm It Up" and "I Missed the Bus."

clemenza, Thursday, 6 May 2021 02:53 (two years ago) link

"The Ice Cream Man Gave Me Slightly Incorrect Change" was a fuckin bop

Feta Van Quiche (Neanderthal), Thursday, 6 May 2021 02:54 (two years ago) link

I feel like this is acceptable. Vote #2 if you know those two songs but also dimly remember I Missed The Bus

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Thursday, 6 May 2021 03:05 (two years ago) link

I didn't remember it until it was mentioned on the thread so that probably counts.

Sequel to Sadness (Sund4r), Thursday, 6 May 2021 03:21 (two years ago) link

I already voted #3 on the basis of moderately remembering I Missed The Bus. Scrap the poll, start again.

Pretty sure I only know the two singles. Did they have another one that had something to do with "hangin' on the playground," or was that Another Bad Creation?

not sure if you guys are trying to clown, but here's some solid jams:

"tonight's the night" remix with redman (1996):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wgYsQwXr58

"alright" with supa cat (1993):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0z9N7DpdSc

"live and die for hiphop" featuring aaliyah (1996):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZ57ETBzXo8

and those were just the singles. i'm not in here claiming these are lost classics or anything, but in my opinion they certainly improved with age. maybe i'm an idiot (don't acknowledge that pls) but i feel like they could have made a successful and meaningful comeback.

rest in peace chris kelly.☮

I know “jump” and “misses the bus” and whatever song was flipped for June 27

I think this may have been not just the firt rap record I owned, but the first record full stop that wasn't, like, the soundtrack to a Disney movie.

My parents did not have records, my dad had loads of dated but high end hi fi equipment but their music collection consisted of a single Om Kalthoum cassette and a box of reel to reels of radio broadcasts he'd taped as a youth in Baghdad, or maybe Tehran.

My mom liked Bruce Springsteen, "Karma Chameleon" and the Police, but did my dad only tolerated western pop music at best. He had to listen to that damn Kriss Kross album constantly for months, poor guy.

Fauna Sukkot (Deflatormouse), Friday, 14 May 2021 01:42 (two years ago) link

I think we might have had "the best of roy orbison" too, or that could have been a later addition.

Fauna Sukkot (Deflatormouse), Friday, 14 May 2021 01:51 (two years ago) link

I just imagine his feeling of relief each time he briefly switched off the Kriss Kriss tape to listen to the traffic report on 1010 wins every 20 minutes

Fauna Sukkot (Deflatormouse), Friday, 14 May 2021 01:53 (two years ago) link

did not have the album, but know the songs "Jump," "I Missed the Bus," and "Rugrats Rap" by Kriss Kross

I remember they wore their clothes backwards, I remember they had a big hit called "Jump", but I can't for the life of me remember how it goes.

second album was kinda fire iirc

ABC was ok, too. Ain't a thing wrong with this chorus, even if the rest of the track sounds like outsider art

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDPIK7Fz_g4

I'd forgotten Michael Bivins does the same type of spoken bit on this as he did on "Poison." Real-time promo-and-bio in the middle of the damn single is an underrated flex

Know what doesn't hold up? Da Youngsta's

Paul Ponzi, Friday, 14 May 2021 15:09 (two years ago) link

I'm kinda between options 2 and 3 in which I am well acquainted with "Jump" and "Warm It Up", and am aware of the existence of the video for "I Missed The Bus", but could not recall any bit of the song from memory.
I am unfamiliar with the rest of their discography.

MarkoP, Friday, 14 May 2021 15:40 (two years ago) link

I know the singles, and I had the cassette for sure, but I don't remember anything else about it (will have to see if it pries loose any memories though)
