former teen edm star, now making electro-pop going for sheer widescreen beauty over anything else, heavily drawing on Perfume, but also the pastoral sound of various JRPG soundtracks & Joe Hisaishi's Studio Ghibli soundtracks. there's a few twists and turns with a folk ballad, and mostly instrumental pieces reminiscent in feeling of the 1975's forays into instrumental electronic pieces but the electro-pop of the singles is the predominant sound. i love this album

yeah his previous stuff is not at all great, but he's barely released anything in the last 7 years so clearly a ton of artistic development has happened in that time. when i first heard the singles for this i was shocked

I like rather than love this album but "Something Comforting" is like a Skrillex remix of Air France that makes sense.

i don't think skrillex is quite the right reference point (since that kinda implies more of an aggressive dubstep wub drop than the one on "something comforting") but i get what you mean
still one of my favourite albums this year
japanese bonus track with wednesday campanella is wonderful too
