new Les Filles just announced:

my faves are the Music From Saharan Cellphones comps, the Ishilan-i-Tenere comp LP, HAMA, and all the Mdou Moctar (oh and Les Filles of course)

Ha I don’t know! I need to revisit it, I mostly remember the dubbiness, but it did go in lots of directions

outside of the well-known stuff on this label (Moctar, Les Filles, etc), I really love this album:
https://abbagargando.bandcamp.com/album/abba-gargando
From the Bandcamp: "Original compositions and folklore classics from hypnotic electrified weddings to quiet fireside recordings in the refugee camps. Collected and recorded on cellphones, sparse recordings in the medium where he is best known."

I'm continuing to really enjoy the Wau Wau album. I keep forgetting to register if I hear any country—there's a lot going on throughout!—but I do think you're on to something, sleeve
Anyone have a favorite among the Mamman Sani Abdoulaye releases?

got the Les Filles posted upthread on a bandcamp Friday, such a great recordkind of a bummer for them they lost Mdou Moctar to Matador but that was inevitable

I really loved Taaritt by Mamman Sani, but not familiar enough with the rest to tell you if it's the best one. It definitely has the best cover, though, how can you resist?
