Superdigging the new Fluisteraars. It's rough and raw but its a lot more than that as well. Love the variations in vocals. The little instrumental flourishes, the stretched out guitar parts.

'Rough and raw' sounds like a step up from their previous record, which I personally found a little too lush, even though I still enjoyed it a great deal.

Theirs is a characteristically winding and unpredictable path but with a strong feel for melody throughout. I love all of their releases so far.

I tried and tried with the new Portrait, but although they push all the buttons that gets an old school nerd like me salivating, the album just comes up empty. They still have yet to top Crimen Laesae Majestatis Divinae.

Apparently? Twitter says Facebook has another piece and mailing list members got an email with a third piece. Instagram has another piece that reveals a portion of the album title to be Hushed and.

Haven't listened to Mastodon in ages, but on cursory first listen that sounds a bit like ... Prong? But then, I haven't listened to Prong in ages, either! (I should really check in with both again soon.)

I haven't heard Crimen, but I do like the new one even more than Burn the World, just scratching a really nice old school heavy metal itch for me.

that new Replicant is good as hell and they apparently hail from like 10 minutes away from where I live now, which might come in handy if shows are ever normal again.

Also been digging the new Wharflurch (psych-ish doomy death) and Sarcoughagus (typically gross Maggot Stomp stuff) releases, too.

I did an email interview with the Replicant bassist/vocalist and told him that there's a sticker from his early 2000s band still on a lamppost about two blocks from my apartment. (He grew up in the town where I live.)

They're surprisingly similar in many ways, but after listening to one song from each, the new/upcoming Tremonti album is heavier than the new/upcoming Khemmis album.

the new Skepticism (out later this week) arrived on CD here today - it's majestic and I feel like they could do some of this with a big orchestra :-)

that's my most anticipated metal record of the year, probs. they never miss, so I am not surprised that it's majestic :)

alloy will be hard to top for me but I always love what they do

Oh my God, I had no idea. At first I thought you meant to type Reinert but I just checked and confirmed that Malone is gone, too. Amazing musician and those Gordian Knot records are really overlooked and great. Fuck.

Was liking that Warning record (my first exposure to them) right up until the vocals came in.

Not heard the live album yet but Pat Walker is one of the great doom metal singers.
