Glad to see the Turman love, I didn't know his solo work at all until after I became obsessed with the Blizzard record he did with Dilloway, which is one of my favorites of the past 20 years or so.

Anyway, last night I had a dream that I got a drum lesson from him, and today he was mentioned on Rolling Jazz, so it was Sorey for the past while.

Haven't heard Chattaqua Suite in years but know it's right at the time Coleman was experimenting with instruments he didn't have training in.
Which I think is mostly what he's playing on here. Trumpet and violin.
Can't remember how that effects things.

An LP copy of that Sally Eaton just showed up at the bookstore I work at--have never heard it, curiosity def fully piqued/will throw it on during my shift tmrw

i love chappaqua suite simply it's got moffet izenson trio action over the schönbergesque backdrops.
i remember there being tpt & vn, but only got through disc 1 yest, which was trio & orch iirc
ornette is always verging on cock a doodle do colonel bogey as per uje, but that leavens the proceedings somewhat

massaman gai (front tea for two), Saturday, 3 April 2021 07:17 (three years ago) link

right was wondering if i was remembering the thing wrong. I just remember there being tpt & vn but Ornette is credited with sax on the 2 sites I've looked at since.
Was wondering if i'd got a bonus disc in the double lp I had or something. Something contemporary but not of the s/trk

lots of violin/trumpet on who's crazy? another soundtrack he recorded around the same time as chappaqua

no lime tangier, Saturday, 3 April 2021 09:35 (three years ago) link

Maybe i had both at teh time, mid 90s. I lost a lot of vinyl back then so maybe I'm misremembering what was what. Definitely rememnber having Chappaqua.

1973 set by great jazz vocalist. not quite sure what to call the jazz style on here or even if it is all one style.
Band is 3 members of MIles Davis live band from teh time possibly 4 if Miles himself actually plays on this , I think he directs a bit.
Dave Liebman, Mtume and drummer Al Foster plus 2 Japanese players.
Very nice set anyway. Captured in a studio in japan hence the players on it including the Miles Davis band who happened to be playing live there at teh time.
Would be so great if there was more music from thsi time. She had been separated from her husband Max Roach and wa sundergoing som eother personal issues. BUt voice is strong.

Mojo season inspired compilation. Has some interesting stuff on including various bits of folk influenced stuff and some jazz.
Starts a bit slick though possibly

2nd lp by German group.
Still has a bit of the Eastern tinge that is on the first s/t lp but a bit less than on that lp.
So a bit more rocky, still pretty great just not as superlative as that first one.

3 lp boot of "private tapes" material + a track that only seems to have appeared on this comp

not surprised that finally got booted, it's extremely awesome and in demand

I'm listening to the last Apartments album on repeat lately, perfect for the extended Canadian quarantine blues. I think it might be Peter Milton Walsh's best-ever set of songs. Really superlative aging-sad-man shit, "late work" type shit.

Cocteau twins EPs. Sound quality is so much better than the remastered tracks on Lullabies to Violaine.

Found this in my stacks last night, no idea I owned it or why. Overproduced 1985 Japanese pop/rock that even goes kinda Quiet Storm at one point. I didn't like it at all. But it has gone for up to $138 on Discogs? Make me an offer!

I'd guess that price rise is due to this comp from 2020:
