i like the poll idea tho

ACABincalifornia (voodoo chili), Friday, 26 June 2020 21:02 (two weeks ago) link

Yeah, it's really hard to argue for anything but 1965 with that line-up.

yeah i was scrolling down I was really unsure which one I would vote for, and then I reached 1965 and well

I’ve been listening to “Wooly Bully” a lot this week too!!

An erstwhile poster who will remain anonymous would like to pass on the caveat that the version of "Wonderful World" in the 1965 Top 5 was Herman's Hermits' cover, not Sam Cooke's original.

it would take a much worse song than that to ruin that top four

ACABincalifornia (voodoo chili), Friday, 26 June 2020 23:18 (two weeks ago) link

I'm leaning 65 myself.

‘65 very much ‘ok boomer, I think you might be right’

not sure if 2010 is really the worst but it sure feels that way just looking at it

Why did “Total Eclipse of the Heart” chart in ‘95?

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 26 June 2020 23:52 (two weeks ago) link

I wondered that too.

almost all of these have at least one song I love but '95 is pretty dire.

had to check to see which 1990 smash titled "hold on" it was -- it was wilson phillips's. fun fact: en vogue's same-titled hit was ranked #6 that week.

2000 for me

dyl, Saturday, 27 June 2020 03:13 (two weeks ago) link

1965, easily. 1985 is almost good, but too uneven. Duran Duran must have been unstoppable at that point for their forgettable 007 theme to chart that high. The 1975 and 1980 lineups are surprisingly poor; I can only assume that "Coming Up" owes its chart-topping to cocaine.

I only recognize one title ("Blinding Lights") from the current year.

I'm sick of a couple of the '65 songs, so slight edge to '70 for #s 1, 2, and 5 (and I like 4's B-side).

I vividly recall every song from 2000 *except* the #1, which must surely be among Enrique's most generic and least memorable charting singles -- I just searched it up and I've already forgotten how it goes! Give me "Rhythm Divine" any day

I'm gonna do another of these polls, but will have to do albums, as the singles in July are largely the same as in June

I meant to vote for 1970; sometimes I post and forget.
