After these polls I’m thinking of running a new one. I was discussing it on another thread. Top 100 not including what placed before, top 100 of the 10s, or just a rerun incl. old placements?

Cypress Hill. Pigs is one of my favourite rap album opening tracks.

paolo, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 08:11 (three years ago) link

Blaqkout!!!!!!!

ufo, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 10:26 (three years ago) link

I think the first ATCQ is still my favorite of them. Otherwise I was going for The Sun Rises In The East. Relatively few albums here in my regular rotation.

Nabozo, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 10:54 (three years ago) link

For a new poll, I think 2010-2019 would be cool. More than re-evaluating the classics, which the previous poll did a good job with: 4 full decades is a lot to cover. Or do 2000-2020 maybe, and then if if works well, you can redo 1980-2000. Or or or, I don't know.

Nabozo, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 10:59 (three years ago) link

Hmm, 00-20 seems like an interesting possibility

As much as I love ATCQ, my 16 year old self dictates me to vote 'Ironman'.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 11:02 (three years ago) link

Soul food

voodoo chili, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 11:56 (three years ago) link

How is Donuts on this list? There's no raps.

octobeard, Thursday, 4 June 2020 18:04 (three years ago) link

Dilla is as hip hop as it gets. If Premo or Pete Rock or Zaytoven or whoever made an instrumental record, surely it would still only ever be in the one genre? Sampling old records in a new, constructive manner to make beats... well it’s not country music is it?

a hoy hoy, Thursday, 4 June 2020 19:07 (three years ago) link

If you find that hard to deal with, wait till the next poll and then get even more annoyed!

a hoy hoy, Thursday, 4 June 2020 19:08 (three years ago) link

I love instrumental yodeling albums

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Thursday, 4 June 2020 19:09 (three years ago) link

probably listen to King, Soulfood, Blaqkout, Ironman and OG the most these days. my heart is saying soulfood.

Spottie, Thursday, 4 June 2020 20:02 (three years ago) link

hip hop vs rap. not that I care that Dilla was included.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 4 June 2020 20:07 (three years ago) link

i think i probably put up a stink about it when this rolled out but i cant remember now. havent listened to donuts in a long time.

Spottie, Thursday, 4 June 2020 20:13 (three years ago) link

Surely we can all be above such a silly genre name exercise at this point? Or does the 1975 having a bit of rapping on their new album make them more valid than dilla’s instrumental hip hop record

a hoy hoy, Thursday, 4 June 2020 20:26 (three years ago) link

i dont care to argue it either way in 2020

Spottie, Thursday, 4 June 2020 20:28 (three years ago) link

I wouldn't call Donuts a rap album, cause there's no rapping on it, but yeah I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. I think lot of ppl go with Rap over Hip Hop cause it's 1 less syllable, 3 less letters.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I prefer Stress: Extinction Agenda to this Organized Konfusion alb

Dig Dug the police (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 10 June 2020 03:04 (three years ago) link

Big L album had great rhymes, crap beats, and The Big Picture was much better

Dig Dug the police (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 10 June 2020 03:05 (three years ago) link

Ironman was my second choice, woulda voted for it if I knew no one else was leaning that way

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 10 June 2020 16:29 (three years ago) link
