Recommendations for black metal without satanic lyrics(or these other tropes)?

As intriguing as I find black metal in terms of the buzzsaw guitars or the whispered screaming , I find satanism tiring. I also dislike lyrics about pig fucking, scratching bollocks and general machismo which you also get in death metal. And I find staring at shoes tiresome too.

Is there black metal completely without the aforementioned tropes that isn't wimpy like wolves in the throne room or deafheaven?

A lot of black metal is recorded in Finnish, have you tried listening to that? I don't know if they worship Satan over there, but it might be worth a shot!

Lyrics about scratching bollocks you say?

Is Lou Reed a Good Singer? (Tom D.), Monday, 1 June 2020 18:18 (three years ago) link

A look at metal-archives reveals that the tropes I mentioned are still present of some of these artists’ work, but the existence of these artists is encouraging that there might be other performers out there who are entirely trope-free.

Lyrics about scratching bollocks you say?

― Is Lou Reed a Good Singer? (Tom D.),

I think that's what they're singing about.

As a fledgling linguist, there is always a risk insofar as I intend to pick up the Finnish language sooner rather than later, with the help of fellow ILMer Tuomas. At the first mention of paholainen, I'm out.

Is that a punani pun? If so, no, not at all. Otherwise, yes, most certainly!

Mount Eerie, "Wind's Poem". Too wuss?

maffew12, Monday, 1 June 2020 18:27 (three years ago) link

Let's check the lyrics

Voice of wind
(The air in the branches)
Sounded like words
Whispering a spell on me
Until I heard
Now I see shapes in the low light
The earth quakes in the twilight
I see flames in my calm life
I hear the wind's dark poem:
You can see from above, the rocks sticking out of
The yard behind the house make stone constellations,
Half-buried in the dusk, the unformed stories
Coming to life while I sleep.
The breath moves branches saying words that I
Don't know, a new poem. a song I sang in a dream,
The lights of town faint,
Something is exhaling in the sound of traffic, far
Away. something's happening.
Wind's dark poem describes,
Calligraphy of branches writes,
Stone constellation alive
The house is built on a boulder
Soil returns to the wind
Bones...
...hail Satan!

Fuck!

i think he found Jesus by the time of "Ocean Roar"? Give it a spin

maffew12, Monday, 1 June 2020 18:33 (three years ago) link

OK cool, looks promising

Praise the lord
One voice heard low across the water
Through ocean roar.
(One chance out between two worlds, walk with me)
Lost in thought
The mind wandering again
Drifting west over the hills
(Pulled out to sea)
Sitting in the car
After the music stopped abrupt
We arrived in the dark
Lost and disoriented
(Through a dark stretch of trees,
The roar of the beach
Calling.)
As the car cooled down
The sound of waves rose and blanketed.
Our minds grew into a vast night air.
We made beds in the ditch.
The loud breath of surf
Exhaling and constant.
Sleeping on the wet ground.
In a dream I swim.
Out past waves rolling
Broad deep sky.
Look to our lord
...the antichrist

Darn!

You could listen to Tolkien Black Metal, or do you have objections against Hobbits and Trolls.

Are Ludicra too wimpy? I'm not really a metalhead, but as far as black metal go, they're the only band I ever come back to.
