Had a few of these pop up in my Release Radar.

Today it’s a new version of The Jam where it appears Weller has discovered autotune https://open.spotify.com/track/4gyd7RVZdudHH4HPV0AzRO?si=A2xbyyPISfC3LU8m3AZlDA

A few months back, my release radar included an unannounced track from Candy. I was certain it was going to be some Soundcloud rapper, and not the hardcore metal band I had recently been enjoying. To my surprise, it was the same band releasing a new single. I let my guard down. Candy showed up again only about two weeks later -- Of course it was the new single from a Soundcloud rapper with the same name. Grr.

T.Rex was mentioned in the other Spotify thread but it's the one that came to mind right away.

I saw a new Spazz EP last week.

I heard Boris sold their guitars and bought a sampler, then started rapping in Spanish

There's an even worse Gene than Gene.

Got an email about a metalcore band called Kingsmen. If they don't have a cover of "Louie Louie" in their repertoire I'm going to register a complaint.

but also fuck you (unperson), Sunday, 12 April 2020 13:26 (one month ago) link

my latest Release Radar included tracks by the wrong Moebius, the wrong Rainbow, the wrong Boris, the wrong X, and the wrong Bill Evans

i'm kind of fond of italian soft-machine-circa-volume-2 worshippers "the winstons" even if they don't ever whip out the amen break

Pretty pissed at how many Bisons there are on Spotify. I'm positive my band was the first.

The vaguely post-grunge band Sponge has apparently pivoted to mid-tempo house techno

L.A. punk legends X shocked fans by dabbling in meandering dorm room EDM

How the fuck did I get three of these in one week?

billstevejim, Thursday, 16 April 2020 15:39 (one month ago) link

the boring non-punk X is back on today's Release Radar, but I guess we have to let X = X

the latest entries in the reappropriated name sweepstakes are the wrong Peter Green (fair enough), the wrong Baroness (whatever), and the wrong Talk Talk (really?)

I'm sure name duplication often happens with no ill intention, but "Talk Talk" is an especially egregious example of gaming the system

Brad C., Friday, 17 April 2020 14:23 (one month ago) link

I’m listening to the fake talk talk as we speak

T-Rex mentioned upthread showed up this morning on my release radar, as did The Beat.
