I'm sure this would have been asked before--I've probably asked it myself: has there ever been a music-videos poll? I'd love to do that. If anyone ever updates the list, change my entry from Wussy to music videos. Realistically, I'm so far down the list, it'll never get to me anyway. So keep videos in mind if there's ever one of those lulls where no one in sight steps forward. I'm retired, working part-time, so I can step in immediately.
i will update the list early next year. i will keep you in the running for Wussy and add Music Videos. there is no order any longer, just a list of polls that people signed up for so it's fluid.
― Bee OK, Friday, 5 November 2021 01:40 (two years ago) link
Thanks--just drop Wussy altogether. At this point, I think they'd garner about 10 participants.

Music video poll would be amazing. I never had mtv so I missed out on prettymuch all of them. Would love to see ILX’s favorites!
― just staying (Karl Malone), Friday, 5 November 2021 02:36 (two years ago) link
I think it'd be great because they were just so omnipresent for at least a couple of decades...I don't think they are anymore, but it's not like I'm keeping tabs. Balancing the songs themselves and their videos would be interesting (I don't know if you could ever a really love a video if you didn't at least like the song).

When I'd catch up on each year for my year-end lists, I was often listening to songs via YouTube, so I came across many good ones. (Even that, unfortunately, came to an end when Pazz & Jop went under a couple of years ago.)

Still keen on this! Though it wasn't clear that there was a huge amount of interest beyond you and I in the first place. "Modest discography with many not-quite-songs" etc, etc.

A reminder to you folks that you should really vote in the TV poll! All you need to do to vote is submit a ballot including your favorites (3 minimum, 25 maximum, ranked by your favorite to least favorite) to forksclovetofu at gmail. It'll take five minutes, so why not get to it?

Looks like it has indeed been a few years. Assuming the Poster Formerly Known As Gukbe doesn't emerge under an new alias I'd be happy to be provisionally penciled in to crunch the numbers on such a Merritt poll. I suspect there would be more enthusiasm for that than any of my existing suggestions in To Do list.

Do it Nag! I've been eagerly anticipating the Merritt poll for years and now seems like a good time for it, what with all the chatter in the Mag Fields thread :)

I don't have one currently (work is heavy right now) but in the future I'd love to run a Country poll at some point (which I would definitely name Country-POLL-iton) if there was enough interest. Also if someone was willing to co-run it to help with the images as I have no idea how to do that sort of thing!

― Bee OK, Wednesday, 23 March 2022 18:16 (two years ago) link
Would there be anywhere near enough enthusiasm for a Randy Newman poll? I'd volunteer to collate that too, if there was.
("Was this prompted by the recent Bandsplain episode?" I hear you cry. Yes, I guess it was lol.)
― Nag! Nag! Nag!, Monday, 28 March 2022 00:46 (two years ago) link
I would vote! I was thinking of starting a 12 Songs poll, because Newman has never had a poll for complete albums or any individual records... but that doesn't bode well for turnout for a career poll. I just had the ominous feeling that the next Randy Newman thread would be post-mortem.
― Halfway there but for you, Monday, 28 March 2022 14:17 (two years ago) link
I'll leave the Newman suggestion to simmer for now.
But enough empty talk from me: having found definite support for a Broadcast poll in another thread, I wouldn't mind actually getting that up and running after Daft Punk. So late April, or thereabouts? Possibly a modest affair with a small pool of enthusiasts.
As always, vigorously quash this suggestion if you've been waiting in the queue since 2010 or whatever lol.
I'm really in the mood for that Broadcast poll right now. Could even maybe help to run it.
Camaraderie at Arms Length, how are you with images? I've usually kept that aspect pretty rudimentary but feel like this instance deserves a little more care.
