kicking the year off with creeper, who will likely be fucking huge

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:25 (four months ago) link

both new Creeper songs are immense, glad they now have the widescreen production they deserve

really digging the Cayetana album, super concise lil gems

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:26 (four months ago) link

wait, cayetana album? didn't they break up

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:27 (four months ago) link

ahhh apparently it's a reissue of their 2014 album it's dated jan 2020 on Spotify. anyway it's real good!

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:28 (four months ago) link

oh nervous like me is definitely a very good record

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:29 (four months ago) link

"hot dad calendar" and "black hills" forever

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:29 (four months ago) link

i'm also guessing it was reissued bc it looks like tiny engines is in trouble

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:30 (four months ago) link

something about the new Creeper songs and potentially getting a new MCR record just feels like (wonderful) overkill to me. we're not worthy!

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:30 (four months ago) link

also stoked for: Ratboys, Worriers, Pears, and fuckin FIREWORKS (proper album rollout when)

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:36 (four months ago) link

can confirm the ratboys record is fuckin awesome

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:37 (four months ago) link

lastly I mentioned it on the punk/non-indie thread but the Chubby and the Gang record is melodic enough for pop-punkers to roll with, I think

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:39 (four months ago) link

oh speaking of bands that don't quite fit this thread but i'm posting them anyway, is anybody here a bad enough dude to be down with knock over city

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGO0yCmnbEs

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 24 January 2020 19:43 (four months ago) link

this is great, gruff delivery reminds me of my beloved drug church a bit

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 24 January 2020 23:04 (four months ago) link

y'all

this Ratboys album

i thought they were gonna be better than most of their contemporaries based on GN and this record delivers on that

alpine static, Wednesday, 29 January 2020 22:19 (three months ago) link

otm, it's a goddamn achievement, i may start a thread

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 30 January 2020 00:03 (three months ago) link

it isn't out for a month though! is that going too far

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 30 January 2020 00:03 (three months ago) link

i guess i do that all the time but it feels mean when i've heard the album before everyone else lol

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 30 January 2020 00:18 (three months ago) link

For the love of God, people, go see Drug Church live.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Monday, 3 February 2020 05:21 (three months ago) link

Thrice with mewithoutYou, Drug Church and Holy Fawn

So unfair, America.

Meanwhile, the new Spanish Love Songs album is killing me.

https://www.vulture.com/article/best-emo-songs.html

i filed blurbs for this a year ago and kinda refuse to look at it directly but enjoy

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 13 February 2020 18:31 (three months ago) link

how come?

alpine static, Thursday, 13 February 2020 20:44 (three months ago) link

vulture sat on it for a year which diminished my enthusiasm for it, but i'm glad it exists now. also i have no idea what my blurbs are like anymore

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 13 February 2020 21:51 (three months ago) link

they're good, Brad.

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Friday, 14 February 2020 15:56 (three months ago) link

if anyone is nostalgic for catchy hairpin-turn pop-punk, I recommend the new Pears singles (and their last album and split LP with Direct Hit, for that matter).

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 21 February 2020 17:09 (three months ago) link

oh hai epic new Hopesfall single

https://youtu.be/ft8jMLJuAC0

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Monday, 24 February 2020 17:50 (three months ago) link

lol i was just about to post that

american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 24 February 2020 17:51 (three months ago) link

seriously thinking about hitting up Furnace Fest (unless someone can recommend a better emo/punk fest this summer/fall)

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Monday, 24 February 2020 17:53 (three months ago) link

ha, I too came here to post the Hopesfall

Dinsdale, Monday, 24 February 2020 20:14 (three months ago) link

i require more eight minute space emo epics

american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:15 (three months ago) link

I was really hoping the Hum reunion was going to result in new music, so I'll have to settle for these guys

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:27 (three months ago) link

btw stream the goddamn ratboys album here http://www.mtv.com/news/3152930/ratboys-printers-devil-interview-stream/

who could forget dear ratboys

american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 24 February 2020 23:37 (three months ago) link

yo brad any idea when they're gonna properly announce that new Fireworks album

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 14:45 (three months ago) link

i wish i knew

american bradass (BradNelson), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 14:55 (three months ago) link

simon have you heard the loathe record

it's more appropriate for the metal thread than here but also, in a way, it isn't

american bradass (BradNelson), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 16:54 (three months ago) link

YES it's really good! I actually thought about bumping one of the Deftones threads because parts are almost criminally similar and it should appeal to anyone who's impatiently waiting for the new album. I'm not convinced by all of the djent-y bits but I'm impressed with the scope.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 16:56 (three months ago) link

I thought simon had bumped this thread telling you all the Pup album placed in metal poll

Oor Neechy, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 16:57 (three months ago) link

oh I knew that was going to happen (one of the reasons I was fine w not voting for it)

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 17:04 (three months ago) link

another thing that could qualify for the metal thread: the new envy record is uh so fucking good???

american bradass (BradNelson), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 21:11 (three months ago) link

it really is. a lot more metal than Pup though

gman59, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 21:43 (three months ago) link

It is v v good, feel like it flew under the radar. The curse of consistency.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 22:58 (three months ago) link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_2C_9jLmNc

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 28 February 2020 16:07 (three months ago) link

the least exhilarating of the singles so far but still really nice.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 28 February 2020 16:09 (three months ago) link

Envy usually make the metal poll. in fact a single made last years iirc

Oor Neechy, Friday, 28 February 2020 16:14 (three months ago) link

I like this recent Ratboys album (posting here b/c it's mentioned above; tho I wouldn't have thought to classify it in one of the thread title's genres).

Some of it reminds a little of old-school Sleepyhead (that dreamy, love-rock feel)... some tracks also have a bit of a Big Thief sound, like if their first album had been even poppier (though it may be the singer's vocal tone that's largely leading me there).

tamagotchi revival artist (morrisp), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 18:18 (two months ago) link

...actually, no, it's more than just her voice. The guitar sound too

tamagotchi revival artist (morrisp), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 18:21 (two months ago) link

ratboys are kind of part of the "scene." if i've ever seen a band play the fest, they belong in this thread

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 18:22 (two months ago) link

new Partner single close to a return to 1st LP form

also, in unexpected comebacks: fuckin SHINER???

https://youtu.be/Cpj92auxIwg

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 22:49 (two months ago) link

if anyone is nostalgic for catchy hairpin-turn pop-punk, I recommend the new Pears singles

this album in fact absolutely slays

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 12 March 2020 13:32 (two months ago) link

I'm surprised at the BNM for the Dogleg album - it's a fine debut but didn't feel that distinguished to me at least on one listen

brechtian social distancing (Simon H.), Monday, 16 March 2020 12:48 (two months ago) link

much more up my alley: Wednesday's I Was Trying To Describe You to Someone, found via my Discover playlist. lovely hazy depressive bedroom-and-garage emo with elements of slowcore and some surprising little turns. features a song called "Maura" for extra ILM points.

brechtian social distancing (Simon H.), Monday, 16 March 2020 13:23 (two months ago) link

the dogleg is very listenable

j., Tuesday, 17 March 2020 01:41 (two months ago) link

i agree w/ Simon ... it's a really good album! and that score is an over-correction. but that's ok.

alpine static, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 05:49 (two months ago) link

if anyone missed it last year, this is a good time to check out Fred Thomas's doom-laden ambient emo maybe-masterpiece Aftering which sounds especially great right now

brechtian social distancing (Simon H.), Saturday, 21 March 2020 18:43 (two months ago) link

A couple listens in to that Dogleg album and I'm really enjoying it.

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Sunday, 22 March 2020 02:19 (two months ago) link

This Spanish Love Songs album is pretty bleak but I'm into it

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Tuesday, 24 March 2020 19:45 (two months ago) link

Camp Cope streaming live on Specialist Subject’s Instagram feed in about 45 minutes if anyone’s interested!

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 24 March 2020 22:15 (two months ago) link

don't know where else to post this but liking the empty country record by yr man from cymbals eat guitars

https://emptycountry.bandcamp.com/album/empty-country

devvvine, Wednesday, 25 March 2020 15:36 (two months ago) link

we've been talking about it in the cymbals eat guitars thread! it's brilliant

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 March 2020 15:43 (two months ago) link

ah cool, i googled for one and only found a surfer blood (lol) thread

I don't think there's a rolling thread for indie, math-rock, etc, but this might do. I'm really loving this Covet tune.

oh that's a nice surprise

ufo, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 14:25 (one week ago) link

"Scram!" sounds like a sneak peek of the next Glass Beach album jfc

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 14:25 (one week ago) link

after two listens I am ready to declare NO DREAM as considerably better than POST- but not quite as good as Worry which I don't think is toppable. also much more punk than I was expecting

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 15:43 (one week ago) link

Yessss! Halfway through and this is precisely the release of pent-up energy needed. Agree with Simon that it's a lot punkier than the previous. I'm crazy about the album art too.

tangenttangent, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 18:32 (one week ago) link

I've listened to this 5-6 times already lol. it feels like it's five minutes long

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 18:35 (one week ago) link

My dopamine is through the roof right now haha

tangenttangent, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 18:38 (one week ago) link

feeling extremely targeted by the lyrics of "Old Crap" in particular

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Thursday, 21 May 2020 00:23 (one week ago) link

sounding pretty good even if it's not a worry-level masterpiece

ufo, Thursday, 21 May 2020 02:56 (one week ago) link

I assume Craig of the Creek (which I've not watched) is getting the benefit of his more showtuney/colorful side. I await his vastly improved take on American Idiot sometime after his TV watch ends.

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Thursday, 21 May 2020 03:44 (one week ago) link

NO TIME is full Basket Case

tangenttangent, Thursday, 21 May 2020 21:40 (one week ago) link

"State Line" has been my NO DREAM highlight so far. I still think We Cool? is his best

gman59, Thursday, 21 May 2020 22:31 (one week ago) link

and the title track which is pretty incredible

gman59, Friday, 22 May 2020 03:59 (six days ago) link

funny the title track is the mandatory "one song I find skippable" which seems to exist on every single Rosenstock release for me.

another new Creeper song, "All My Friends"....this rollout is taking forever but wow is this one a beaut

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Friday, 22 May 2020 11:21 (six days ago) link

also I think the new Caligula's Horse record (and the superior previous one) would appeal more to emo thread cru people than most of the metal thread. big soaring heart-on-yr-sleeve shit, pretty close to the better moments on the Dear Hunter albums.

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Friday, 22 May 2020 11:29 (six days ago) link
