When Reggie recorded three contenders for the new Comedy Bang Bang theme, I liked one, was indifferent toward one, and strongly disliked the third. I’m used to it now, but I also fast fwd like 48 times out of 60.

Very occasional listener only to Buxton, so find all his jaunty jingles charming when I do.

Doug Loves Movies is still impressive for its classic TV theme approach of fitting a whole song that almost but not really tells you what the show is about in 30 seconds, and the Yuletide variation not by a rapist is delightful every December

I was gonna say “LOCK THE GATES” was dropped about 700 episodes ago but maybe I just got good at ffwding past it?

Worst Year Ever song sounds like some shitty mid-00s indie thing

The Yacht or Nacht theme from Beyond Yacht Rock is a favorite of mine

+1 to Bandsplain (even though I am *genuinely upset* by the format change on their most recent ep)

Yeah, that is a bummer. Same change that Rob Harvilla made to 60 Songs That Explain the 90s a few months back.

Still unsure of how I feel about the new-ish Slate Political Gabfest theme song that They Might Be Giants wrote. It is appropriately nerdy.

The Daily Beans theme song was also written and performed by They Might be Giants and is stupidly catchy.

xp hm. Will definitely help slim down the already very long episodes, but would probably be better to trim the often rather disorganized discussion/banter.

iirc from when Harvilla explained it, the Spotify program that allows you to use full songs in your podcast automatically disqualifies you from ranking on certain charts or something? You get algorithmically disadvantaged.

I'm less bothered about losing the songs for their own sake (I can always look them up on my own, I've already got the Spotify app open yafeelme?) than I am about losing their function as reference markers in a 4- or 5-hour podcast. It would be much easier to revisit "the part where Hanif compares listening to Faith to walking through an endless graveyard with a name you recognize on every marker" if I could look at the playlist and start from the talk segment just after the last 17 Seconds track.
