Let's discuss the singing career of ANITA BRYANT

I have to admit, her heyday was a little before my time and so I've never heard Paper Roses. I don't see what the big deal about this song was. I know people liked what was called "beautiful music" but compared to someone like Miss Toni Fisher... I mean Bryant is singing about "fakery" and yes I'm coming in with a certain preconceived dislike but this song sounds fake as all hell. And that Hawaiian guitar - are you fucking serious? I love Hawaiian guitar but in this context it's just goddamn insulting.

it's odd but interesting that she's better known for being pied than her hits these days

Saw someone tweet this:

“anita bryant had multiple top 20 hits in the 60’s, was seeing on commercials regularly for 11 years as the brand ambassador for the Florida citrus commission, and in death is only known for her bigotry

ponder that orb, JKR”

The Bryant/JKR comparisons struck me long before the former's death. That said, I suspect the cultural impact of Harry Potter is and will remain much greater than anything Bryant did career-wise, and JKR's transphobia will share at least equal billing with HP in her obits. But the point is still worth minding--not that I expect JKR to do so at this or any foreseeable point.
