we normally think of “petty” as involving grudges over trivial matters, but i disagree - turning someone’s funeral into an opportunity for resentment is a world-beater here.

‘Substance’ gets very Partridgian in places. Also pretty grubby when you get to the “we did loads of drugs and sulked with each other” years.

Yeah, the factual statement of 'moaning and complaining by' (as opposed to, for example 'Hook's increasing annoyance with') is the winner for me. Similarly, 'lack of cooperation exhibited by' and 'as weak link' are also really good. But for me this ended up as a contest between 'moaning/complaining' and the single positive note 'sunnier personality displayed by'.

I read it. Good book, but it just cemented my dislike of Peter Hook.

also chose moaning and complaining of but it’s a v strong field. i quite like the bathetic double “absence of” shots.
