In League With Dragons is the upcoming seventeenth studio album by the Mountain Goats, scheduled to be released on April 26, 2019, on Merge Records. Inspired by tabletop role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, the album has been described as a "partial rock opera" with influences from noir literature.

First two listens got me feeling good about the record, tour kicks off Friday, April 26.

Some live material (including new and old songs) from the record announcement at Wizards of the Coast can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjwODVl3v3M

Season 2 of the I Only Listen To The Mountain Goats podcast is talking through each track with John D and listening to his demos

haha I read wins's comment as "that's unctuous" and I kept watching the video looking for unctuous qualities thinking "wow, rude"

Always impressed by John's ability to find little tunes that feel anthemic--shit that just begs you to sing along. This record is no exception.

A lot of little earwormy bits, too:
"I want everyone to get high."
"Until my protector comes."
"I'm gonna burn it all down today--down today, okay. I'm gonna burn it all down today, and sweep all the ashes away."

Really enjoying it.

Loving the new album. Favourite tracks so far are Clemency For The Wizard King and In League With Dragons.

Check out the latest podcast episode for a v. different version of Going Invisible 2

"Younger" is probably my favourite MG tune ever. Love the sax bit.

I'm still warming to the album as a whole, but "Sicilian Crest" may very well be my favourite song of the year so far.

three months pass...

Enjoyed the free show by the East River the other night (also any show where the stage patter includes "impostor syndrome").

However I will personally book them into a baseball stadium next time so "Doc Gooden" must be performed.
