god there's so much amazing stuff here. but i'm going for lamb lies down on broadway, without hesitation.

Notable absences - the best Hawkwind album, Hatfield & The North s/t and Lucio Battisti's Anima Latina.

*there's (Noel Emits), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:01 (five years ago) link

After balmy '73 this year maybe has a more reflective tone. The real end of the 60s comedown vibes.

*there's (Noel Emits), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:07 (five years ago) link

xpost yeah those are all great, especially the hatfield & the north album. re: hawkwind i'm more into warrior on the edge of time tho.

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:11 (five years ago) link

i'd add:
jorge ben - a tábua de esmeralda
jimmy webb - land's end
van morrison - veedon fleece
franco battiato - "clic"
harmonia - musik von harmonia
todd rundgren - todd
henry cow - unrest

J. Sam, Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:13 (five years ago) link

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:16 (five years ago) link

Harmonia could have picked up votes, I reckon.

The Vangelis of Dating (Tom D.), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:18 (five years ago) link

Anyway, I didn't vote in the last one because I couldn't make my mind up and there's absolutely no chance of me voting in this one.

The Vangelis of Dating (Tom D.), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:19 (five years ago) link

give a vote to the one most likely to get zero votes then

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:28 (five years ago) link

actually i cant see the gene clark getting a vote so do it for gene

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:29 (five years ago) link

I first heard Inspiration Information when it was reissued in 2001 on a CD that also included half of Shuggie Otis's previous album Freedom Flight (including "Ice Cold Daydream" and "Strawberry Letter 23") as bonus tracks. That album would've easily gotten my vote, but without those songs I'll probably go with Gram, Gene, or Joni.

Lee626, Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:39 (five years ago) link

....or Stanley Clarke who I really like, but I find it hard ranking jazz albums alongside other genres; jazz is like its own thing.

Court & Spark. no contest.

Hmmmmm (jamiesummerz), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:42 (five years ago) link

Veedon Fleece is also the best Van album so yeah, weird thats not on here

Hmmmmm (jamiesummerz), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 13:43 (five years ago) link

I saw that Shuggie Otis CD (on Luaka Bop) for 30p recently but left it because there was a stain on the booklet and I tend not to hang onto them if they're a bit manky.

Why are the King Crimson and Miles albums grouped into single options but the two Eno albums separate options? This is Red vs The Lamb vs Warm Jets for me. Might go with The Lamb for the number of times I've listened to it on long drives.

1. Radio City
2. Court & Spark
3. I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight

Another great year, the first half of the '70s was such a great time for albums, I think there's maybe a drop-off at '75/'76 but I may well be wrong.

Blue Oyster Cult- Secret Treaties
Stevie Wonder- Fullfillingness First Finale

interesting picks. i always thought of '74 as the last great year for prog, but when i go through my '74 i am finding a lot of soul as well. blue magic s/t, black heat's "no time to burn", george duke's "feel"... AND WHERE THE FUCK IS FULFILLINGNESS' FIRST FINALE? also, casablanca moon, kimono my house, _todd_

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Wednesday, 27 February 2019 15:57 (five years ago) link

I'm torn between Zuckerzeit, which is one of those albums that I always enjoy hearing no matter what, and (kind of surprisingly) On the Beach. The Fela is once again super tempting, I probably should have held out for Confusion tbh, which is colossal.

The Jorge Ben and Harmonia albums already mentioned would be my own most important additions along with Dadawah, Peace & Love and Keith Hudson, Flesh of My Flesh Blood of My Blood. This is also a foundational year for dub (Pick a Dub, Dub from the Roots, The Roots of Dub).

Eno will get my vote for 75 so I'll choose The Lamb for 74. It still feels wrong to not click On The Beach or Court & Spark

Big Star - Radio City
David Bowie - Diamond Dogs
Funkadelic - Standing on the Verge of Getting It On
Gram Parsons - Grievous Angel
Kraftwerk - Autobahn

Not a good year for this rockist (no Sabbath album!) but I will go with Parsons only slightly over Kraftwerk and a little above the rest.
