10cc - "I'm Not In Love" one of my all-time songs.

Also, fuck Pete Rose!

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Friday, 21 December 2018 02:47 (five years ago) link

1. "In the Summertime" (my generation's "Baby, It's Cold Outside," oddly enough), 2. "Fox on the Run," 3. "Werewolves of London," 4. "Right Back Where We Started From," 5. "Draggin' the Line," 6. "Brand New Key"

I will remember to click this time.

"Fox on the Run" wins everything.

I can hardly imagine adoring a song more than You Sexy thing, but my life, my love, and my lady is the sea so...

Maxine Nightingale (1975): "Right Back Where We Started From" (J. Vincent Edwards, Pierre Tubbs) – 3:18

I quit following the individual polls at some point, but you monsters let this one win one of them??

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 December 2018 03:49 (five years ago) link

That song rules, wtf are you on about?

Hakuna Mutato (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 26 December 2018 04:18 (five years ago) link

It is aural poison.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 December 2018 04:30 (five years ago) link

I know you hate it JF, but my guess is that most people who know it from when it was a hit love it.

Well we polled the entire of Have a Nice Day: Super Hits of the 70s and we already did Just Can’t Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the 80s. Where do we go from here? Anybody up for slogging through all fifty-billion volumes of Now That’s What I Call Music?

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 27 December 2018 08:54 (five years ago) link

AM Gold or the Rhino DIY series?

It was suggested awhile back that we tackle the Didn't It Blow Your Mind 70s Soul series next.

Rhino also did a short 80s Pop series in the vein of HAND (Radio Daze?), but I think we've had our fill of stuff like that for a minute.

Infidels, Like Dylan In The Eighties (C. Grisso/McCain), Thursday, 27 December 2018 15:06 (five years ago) link

the Turn Up The Bass series 1-25 (1989-1993), all (hip-)house and techno hits.

ultimate breaks and beats/dusty fingers

mookieproof, Thursday, 27 December 2018 16:54 (five years ago) link

Good to see I wasn’t the only one to recognize the greatness of “Emotion”. I won’t claim it’s the best of this bunch (“You Sexy Thing” has undoubtedly given me the most pleasure in my lifetime), but it’s the only one that’s very much alive for me still. Every time I play it I get lost in the melody (that Gibb-enhanced chorus!) and I want to hear it again and again.
