Part of the other reason this one endured is the main riff being simple acoustic chords, so lots of fratboys who brought guitars to parties or musicians that perform covers at bars and restaurants would play it incessantly. For years.

It even wound up in an episode of Scrubs, Ted's a capella group performing it at Janitor's wedding

I guess this is an opinion that belongs in this thread: I find Outkast in general to be really easy to overplay. I liked "Ms. Jackson" and "Rosa Parks" and "Hey Ya" and all the other hits when they were on the radio, but now they've reached "I know this song so well it's boring" status for me and I never need to hear them again.*

*does not apply to albums, songs that don't get a lot of radio play, or "Bombs Over Baghdad."

I recall tuning into my local college station in 2003 and the dj was playing Hey Ya seemingly unaware that it was also the number one song in the country. The ascent to ultra-mainstream was so rapid.

Hey Ya blew my mind the first time I heard it on the radio and to be honest, it hasn't stopped. The song is evergreen for me.

Definitely saw a college guy with acoustic guitar just sitting on a campus bench strumming Hey Ya.

Get Lucky was a song that underwhelmed me when it first came out, but then I brainwashed myself into liking it for the sake of Nile Rodgers. "Like the legend of the phoenix" is one of the most tepid opening lines in music history.

My affection for "Get Lucky" withered quickly too. I was all there for Nile Rodgers.

Random access memories is probably the album which most quickly dissipated for me, it’s just not that great.

Random Access Memories was terrible from the jump

"fragments of time" is good

the one with the strokes guy is good, “lose yourself to dance” is good until the robots start going ‘cmon cmon cmon cmon cmon, “touch” is pretty incredible, the rest doesn’t move me. “Game of love” would be alright if they had gotten Lou gramm to sing it.

kylie’s “can’t beat the feeling” is perhaps accidentally a vv slightly similar-sounding precursor to “get lucky” and it’s better. Should have been one of Aphrodite’s singles.

I got swept up in the RAM hype a bit but in the end it didn’t have the tunes or much that lingered. Homework is still my top daft punk.

I would still kinda bop around if I heard "Get Lucky" and have residual affection, but I am almost completely oblivious to mainstream radio and rarely encounter it in the wild so it's not too overplayed for me

the only Daft Punk album I ever wanna listen to anymore is Alive 2007. it astounds me that a group so tapped into the soul of the dance floor and the idea of electronic music as a living organism put out something so tepid and strung out. I mean RAM is definitely a good album but I'm worn out just thinking about putting it on again

yeah, Alive 2007 is the best Daft Punk album. I don't know if that's a controversial opinion, it certainly seems obvious to me. They just took all the best bits of their albums and mashed them together perfectly.

daft punk got lucky a few times by riding different waves of disco gentrification but their music is just not very interesting on the whole

someone will point out how popular [insert alleged daft punk banger here] was in gay clubs and I'll be like sure but that's part of the problem

is that something inherent to their music or a byproduct of their mass popularity?

Alive 2007 is also the only Daft Punk album I listen to, but I really only need 20-30 minutes of it. There's a LOT going on and I just want to move on to something else after a point.
