soundgarden sucked because they really wanted to be Roy Orbison but didn't have the balls to really go for it

sarahell, Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:22 (five years ago) link

time to bump the superunknown thread again

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:27 (five years ago) link

honestly i'm just making shit up -- i don't really care about soundgarden

sarahell, Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:36 (five years ago) link

Every rock album from roughly 1996-2000 could lose about 5 tracks or 15 minutes and be vastly improved in the process.

grawlix (unperson), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:38 (five years ago) link

agree, just not superunknown

marcos smart (Spottie), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:40 (five years ago) link

bullshit -- Arab on Radar's Soak the Saddle is perfect as is

sarahell, Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:40 (five years ago) link

Badmotorfinger is the best IMO

OTM

Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, Limo Wreck, Kickstand, and 4th of July could all go IMO.

grawlix (unperson), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:42 (five years ago) link

they can all go afaic

sarahell, Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:43 (five years ago) link

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:46 (five years ago) link

Doomsday Student is/was closest to the greatness of AoR

sarahell, Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:47 (five years ago) link

Chinese Stars was good iirc -- only saw them once

sarahell, Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:47 (five years ago) link

Unperson, those are the two hits and three really strong album cuts imo! "4th of July" might be my favourite song on that album.

silent as a seashell Julia (Sund4r), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:54 (five years ago) link

Black Hole Sun is one of the worst songs Soundgarden ever recorded. It's one of the worst songs of the 1990s. Whether that's why it was a massive hit, I will not speculate.

grawlix (unperson), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 19:55 (five years ago) link

I don't hate it but that one isn't my favourite at all (decent Aerosmith verse, monotonous chorus). It does annoy me that 'everyone' seems to know this great, weird heavy band by that one atypical ballad. They obv made the right commercial call by not cutting it, though, ha.

Hey, I didn't say it was one of, like, the five worst songs of the 1990s. There were hundreds. It was a dark time.

grawlix (unperson), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 20:16 (five years ago) link

i still love nevermind, can't stand the NMH dude's singing, you're welcome

is Judas Priest is 10X the band Iron Maiden is controversial?

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 20:36 (five years ago) link

I think the conventional wisdom is that Judas Priest's albums are better, but Iron Maiden live is life-changing. That's how I feel about it, anyway.

grawlix (unperson), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 20:40 (five years ago) link

youth of america wipes the ass of about any album out there.

Arab Strap are more fun to listen to than Belle and Sebastian. Arab Strap's music has more resonance (physically and emotionally) than that of Belle & Sebastian.

not controp ^

steven, soda jerk (sic), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 22:18 (five years ago) link

this is definitely the right thread to polish the balls of tedious rawk wankery Soundgarden though, well done everyone

steven, soda jerk (sic), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 22:18 (five years ago) link

Arab Strap have about 15-18 really good songs, B&S have about 70

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 22:21 (five years ago) link

ahh, shit

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 22:23 (five years ago) link

So, Soundgarden are tedious now? Or just soda jerk (another ten percenter) thinks so.....?

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 22:30 (five years ago) link

As an American it's my honor to polish Soundgarden's balls to a mirrorlike sheen

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 22:30 (five years ago) link

Can somebody fill me in on the "controp" thing? What does it mean? Is it just cool to keep me guessing?

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 22:32 (five years ago) link

Soundgarden are a great band with no front-to-back great albums. (Ultramega OK and Badmotorfinger come closest, to me.)

There is an actual code to Pearl Jam's No Code - however ambiguous or amorphous it may be.. there's a definite code that it adheres to.

Thank you for clearing that up!

challop > controp

Jay-Z would've experienced more (even more) success (album sales, fame, valuable stock, etc.) if he had more Russell Crowe feature spots/ cameos on his tracks. -Controp or non- controp?

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 23:04 (five years ago) link

The best ever Nirvana album was named "Two of Us" and was released in 1968.

The song "Jessie" by Paw is not about an actual dog named Jessie, it's about having an ideal best friend who'll know when to lay off, or when to let go (to not get fixated on trivial things)

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Wednesday, 13 February 2019 23:09 (five years ago) link

The song "Black Shampoo" by Wu-tang clan was filmed in an actual The Body Shop store, in Westfarms mall (West Hartford, CT) in 1996. U-God "Golden Arms" delivered his verses while soaking his feet in hot, bubbling water (in a hot tub filled w/heated Poland Spring water and Epsom salt) - in a mobile hot tub on top of a parade float - it was towed by a Ram pickup truck.

Holy shit. I did not expect to see a Paw reference toda... for the rest of my life.

Arab Strap are shite. Belle & Sebastian are worse.

they toured Australia a couple of years after Jessie, and the posters had "JESSIE YOU'RE A GOOD DOG SUCH A GOOD DOG" in large caps, laid over the out of focus band photo

"Often wondered how that band got signed."

They made an album called Dragline. It's good

Paw's Dragline was one of my 8 free CDs from Columbia House back in the day, that's the main thing I remember about it.

listening to Paw's Dragline right now and buffing Kim Thayil's scrote, sounds p good tbh
