was hoping this would break the streak of ballad bond themes, it doesn't, but it's still the best bond theme since "you know my name" (low bar) and a good song worth hearing more than once (a bar which recent bond themes did not clear). in mood it kind of reminds me of "the world is not enough"

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 14 February 2020 00:17 (four years ago) link

now that i've posted that i need to play "you know my name" five times in a row again

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 14 February 2020 00:18 (four years ago) link

it's certainly better than fuckin "Skyfall"

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 14 February 2020 00:20 (four years ago) link

and thankfully is probably too low-key to get anywhere near as much play

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 14 February 2020 00:21 (four years ago) link

wholeheartedly agreed, and the less said about "the writing's on the wall" and "another way to die" the better xp

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 14 February 2020 00:21 (four years ago) link

lmao "Another Way to Die" definitely tried for....something, I'll give it that

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 14 February 2020 00:22 (four years ago) link

an ear infection?

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 14 February 2020 00:23 (four years ago) link

i think it made me stop listening to the white stripes

omar little, Friday, 14 February 2020 00:24 (four years ago) link

Alicia Keys and Jack White, together at last! they go down like...thumbtacks and motor oil

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 14 February 2020 00:25 (four years ago) link

I just relistened to "You Know My Name" and brad is otm. Though the theme songs mostly being joyless slogs suits the Craig era pretty well

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 14 February 2020 00:30 (four years ago) link

The last 3 (Adele, Sam Smith and this) have all been very similar haven't they? I've liked them all. I would still have liked Lana to have had a crack at it but hey.

I dig this...

piscesx, Friday, 14 February 2020 00:51 (four years ago) link

Lana admittedly would have done little to break the joylessness streak

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 14 February 2020 00:52 (four years ago) link

this is really good but I also like both bond music and billie eilish more than most people

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Friday, 14 February 2020 04:20 (four years ago) link

lana is a/the perfect pick for bond, esp in 2020

Nude Law (rip van wanko), Friday, 14 February 2020 04:28 (four years ago) link

Lana del Rey supposedly wrote “24” as an audition song for Spectre.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 14 February 2020 07:16 (four years ago) link

Considering what came before it this is a very competent song for a Bond intro but it’s the sort of orchestral somber ballad that’s been done way too many times in the franchise. I thought Billie Eilish would be a perfect fit to revitalize what a Bond theme could be but this is way too safe. Feels like a lesser Skyfall tbh.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 14 February 2020 07:30 (four years ago) link

"competent" is the exact word I came here to use.

☮️ (peace, man), Friday, 14 February 2020 12:16 (four years ago) link

this is okay

totally unnecessary bewbz of exploitation (DJP), Friday, 14 February 2020 14:30 (four years ago) link

First 80sec or so is great. The rest could be anyone, really.

Michael Jones, Friday, 14 February 2020 14:36 (four years ago) link

Incidentally, Sam Smith announced the upcoming release of his new album this week. Titled To Die For.

willem, Friday, 14 February 2020 14:50 (four years ago) link

"fine" seems about right, "forgettable" is also accurate

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 14 February 2020 14:53 (four years ago) link

the recently released title track to that forthcoming sam smith album is much better than this xp

why do these bond things always have to be so annoyingly arranged

dyl, Saturday, 15 February 2020 04:07 (four years ago) link

i love this so much

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 15 February 2020 16:15 (four years ago) link

this is the first bond theme I've listened to more than once since A View to a Kill so it must be good

akm, Saturday, 15 February 2020 16:53 (four years ago) link

she is reeeeally blowing up huh

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Friday, 31 July 2020 01:05 (three years ago) link

damn this is great! she's developing as a singer I think? in a on appealing way? struck me as less mumbly

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Friday, 31 July 2020 01:32 (three years ago) link

It is. What a great song. She sings it so well but, boy, would I ever love to hear Amy Winehouse sing that song!

Gerneten-flüken cake (jed_), Friday, 31 July 2020 01:36 (three years ago) link

I really enjoyed that. It reminded me of the xx somewhat except it's actually good.

pomenitul, Friday, 31 July 2020 01:46 (three years ago) link

rather than amazing, like the XX?

Gerneten-flüken cake (jed_), Friday, 31 July 2020 01:49 (three years ago) link

If you say so (I thought the s/t was ok btw, everything after that can perish in a fire).

pomenitul, Friday, 31 July 2020 01:51 (three years ago) link

It sounds nothing like the XX who are great and got better after the s/t. So there.

Gerneten-flüken cake (jed_), Friday, 31 July 2020 01:54 (three years ago) link

I actually do think she and Romy have a certain vocal similarity, though Eilish is a lot more demonstrative esp now

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Friday, 31 July 2020 02:04 (three years ago) link

also "I'm in love with my future" is a cool lyric/sentiment

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Friday, 31 July 2020 02:08 (three years ago) link

try singing that in six months.

j/k, I like the song.

Gerneten-flüken cake (jed_), Friday, 31 July 2020 02:17 (three years ago) link

chilly gonzales otm these are asmr vocals

corrs unplugged, Friday, 31 July 2020 06:40 (three years ago) link

This is very good and so smooth !
Perfect for a cocktail by the swimming pool as the sun sets...

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 31 July 2020 08:20 (three years ago) link

The long vocal intro before the groove kicks in reminds me of Donna Summer in spirit.
Actually the track is so short it begs for an extended club remix.

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 31 July 2020 09:06 (three years ago) link

beautiful song, agreed that she's taken major steps as a singer, even since 'everything i wanted'

mozzy star (voodoo chili), Friday, 31 July 2020 14:14 (three years ago) link

I don’t really hear the XX? Maybe Zero7 or some other chillout/downtempo act from the early 00s.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 31 July 2020 14:37 (three years ago) link

I thought of the xx because of the barely-there instrumental substratum in the first half and her voice's mild R&B inflections. I can hear echoes of Zero 7 as well, maybe even a bit of Radiohead.

pomenitul, Friday, 31 July 2020 14:43 (three years ago) link

Yeah I got strong turn of the millennium trip-hop/downtempo vibes from this. Like Esthero.

MarkoP, Friday, 31 July 2020 15:04 (three years ago) link

half of esthero is responsible for the weeknd so that's not surprising

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Friday, 31 July 2020 18:21 (three years ago) link

welp I learned something today!

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Friday, 31 July 2020 18:22 (three years ago) link

(I don't hear any of them so much as something cathy battistessa maybe would sing on)

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Friday, 31 July 2020 18:23 (three years ago) link

It's got kind of a Cardigans vibe to me

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Friday, 31 July 2020 18:31 (three years ago) link

dammmmmmn what a song
