If Phish were paragons of their craft, they would be Rusted Root, yes.

Can't wait to see the Root at the state fair this summer. They're co-headlining with Sponge, Tracy Bonham, and Morcheeba. It's gonna be a slice.

Disappointed this poll doesn't include an option for the phrase that he repeats in the verse, which I believe to be ehbubadeesaybubadeeyon.
^^massive oversight imo

You are correct, of course, as that is the most epic of their neologisms. A contribution to our language which will significantly impact generations to come.
'What are you doing, my son?''Well, father, simply put: ehbubadeesaybubadeeyon.''Ah, I see. Please, carry on, my special boy. Namaste.''And a Namaste to you, o father.'

Trick question, because "oombayseeyou" is short for "ehbubadeesaybubadeeyon."

Luv this thread! Rusted Root has an extremely abbreviated Wikipedia page for a band that's been around 25+ years, and has released four major-label albums, four independent albums (one of them double-live), a "20th Century Masters" best-of, and five EPs...
― i’m still stanning (morrisp), Thursday, 19 July 2018 18:45 (five years ago) link
not abbreviated enough imo

In the interest of full disclosure, I was prompted to start this thread this morning when I heard a Spin Doctors song and my immediate thought was that the Spin Doctors were probably the favorite band of at least one member of Rusted Root.

I wonder why the shot the video on such an overcast day. Wouldn't it have more impact if they were prancing on a plateau beneath a sunny, blue sky?

Spin Doctors and Rusted Root were contemporaries -- mid/late-'93 "alternative" radio was all "Two Princes," "On My Way," and the 4 Non Blondes song.

I often find myself locked in a moment of zen-like contemplation when I realize that most bands are somebody's favorite band. Like Crazytown. Someone out there somewhere still proudly declares that Crazytown is their favorite band of all time. It's a very complex world, the one we live in.

I don't think the contemporariness of the Root and the Doctors precludes the fact that the Rusted Root fife player was a charter member of the Spin Doctors fan club.

Anybody here have some salient facts about əkoostik hookah? All I know is that we used to get a kick out of very enthusiastically bellowing their profoundly stupid name in the midst of an ultimate sesh in the quad every time they rolled through my college town.

I guess I was vaguely aware that this band existed. I must have seen posters or CDs or t-shirts or something. But I am very happy that I had not knowingly heard even a single djembe-slap-worth of their alleged "music" until now.
There were probably people on the periphery of my social circle who were into this sort of thing (baja shirt, hacky sack, Birkenstocks/huaraches, pennywhistle). But my truest droogs and I were mainly getting high and listening to Residents, Beethoven, Modern Jazz Quartet, and old-tymey 78s during those years. We were aware there was such a thing as radio, but as far as we were concerned it may as well have been broadcasting solely to the moon.

Critical reception has been mixed. In January 2014, in a review for Cruel Sun, Kurt Keefner said that "the African vocal riff from "Send Me on My Way" is bad Ladysmith Black Mambazo",[7]

I have "When I Woke" and "Welcome To My Party". I love the WIW opening track "Drum Trip". It's so anti-commercial! Vocals are a bit David Byrne-ish.

I happen to be listening to that track right now (when you search Rusted Root on Spotify, playlists that come up include "Have a Great Day!", "Totally Stress Free", and "A Perfect Day" -- sounds like my vibe)

Ultimately they may have damaged or certainly limited their careers by allowing themselves to be exclusively lumped into the Deadhead / jam band circuit.
