happy new year, happy new jeff rosenstock record

also looks like senses fail went back to their pop-punk roots, album out next month

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 2 January 2018 17:45 (one month ago) Permalink

sad new emo year!!

Pianos Become the Teeth and Tiny Moving Parts have new ones out soonish

Simon H., Tuesday, 2 January 2018 18:05 (one month ago) Permalink

lmao at the ersatz Eno/SotL ending to the new Rosenstock record, bless his heart

Simon H., Tuesday, 2 January 2018 18:34 (one month ago) Permalink

POST- is fine but not really close to being as great as WORRY., it doesn't have the same sheer density of hooks

ufo, Wednesday, 3 January 2018 07:42 (one month ago) Permalink

yeah the only two songs that really grab me in the worry way are the two epics. i also love "yr throat"

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 3 January 2018 08:44 (one month ago) Permalink

I really like the two quasi-ballads, "TV Stars" (despite its weirdly arbitrary chorus) and "9/10", which actually got me a little teary on first listen. Definitely a transitional record, which is easy to get away with when you release an album every 12-15 months.

Simon H., Wednesday, 3 January 2018 14:48 (one month ago) Permalink

"it's not like any other job I know / if you're a piece of shit they don't let you go" is a good of-the-moment lyric

Simon H., Wednesday, 3 January 2018 14:52 (one month ago) Permalink

Sounds great so far. It doesn't build and flow as seamlessly as WORRY, but I like all the songs individually.

jmm, Wednesday, 3 January 2018 15:50 (one month ago) Permalink

two weeks pass...

OK, the Tiny Moving Parts song released today ("Warm Hand Splash") is *fantastic*

Simon H., Friday, 19 January 2018 13:44 (one month ago) Permalink

ooh i like them!

maura, Friday, 19 January 2018 21:08 (one month ago) Permalink

as usual the lyrics are not extraordinary and yet i feel moved listening to it

Mordy, Saturday, 20 January 2018 15:28 (one month ago) Permalink

It was Stereogum's album of the week a few days ago:

That Tiny Moving Parts song wasn't bad, closer to what I'm looking for

Nhex, Thursday, 25 January 2018 01:37 (four weeks ago) Permalink

Thank you for showing me Closer. Loving this so much

gman59, Thursday, 25 January 2018 01:38 (four weeks ago) Permalink

I'm liking Closer too; can't escape the irony that the chorus of the track they've set to play first is "All I want is something familiar" bc yeah this sounds familiar! In a good way!

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 15:24 (four weeks ago) Permalink

I'm hopeful they'll get back together at some point (unless you're about to tell me I shouldn't be)

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 15:26 (four weeks ago) Permalink

oh i am too. oh common life deserves a follow-up

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 15:27 (four weeks ago) Permalink

i had no idea that the dangerous summer reunited and recorded a new album? so far it's great, but their albums tend to start off great and drift into whatever

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 26 January 2018 17:08 (four weeks ago) Permalink

actually the album is pretty good the whole way through!

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 26 January 2018 17:38 (four weeks ago) Permalink

my favorite screamo song of the year is the last minute or so this all-screaming version of the Lady Bird trailer

I now present to you, the Lady Bird trailer, but I scream every word...

new black foxxes record is already one of my favorite albums of the year and this is one of the best songs from it. riyl: manchester orchestra

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Monday, 5 February 2018 22:06 (two weeks ago) Permalink

I do wish the TMP album were a touch more ambitious overall a la "Warm Hand Splash" but it is certainly v solid

Simon H., Monday, 5 February 2018 22:08 (two weeks ago) Permalink

based on my many listens to "Charisma" I have decided that PBtT's David Haik is the most overperforming drummer in emo (in a good way)

Simon H., Monday, 5 February 2018 22:41 (two weeks ago) Permalink

great track when is the album actually dropping

Mordy, Monday, 5 February 2018 22:43 (two weeks ago) Permalink

Simon H., Thursday, 8 February 2018 14:47 (two weeks ago) Permalink

new Brian Fallon is out today, he's (unsurprisingly) gone even more retro and not really connected to anything even emo-adjacent at this point but it's not bad!

new Dashboard is out too for those so inclined. There's also an OK new Wonder Years single - album's out in April.

Simon H., Friday, 9 February 2018 13:18 (two weeks ago) Permalink

for those so inclined

I just listened to their whole album and really enjoyed it.

Everything in this thread is absolutely beautiful. Have been loving the Tiny Moving Parts, Closer, Jeff Rosenstock, Runaway Brother (who I'd never heard of before, so thank you Evan R), Senses Fail...all of it!

This is a really richly produced sort of emogaze by 'Snape', who don't seem to have released much else before this. The whole thing sounds great, but try track 5 for something instantly loveable.

Launch of new ILM school business management programmes! (tangenttangent), Sunday, 11 February 2018 22:43 (one week ago) Permalink

Emo is sometimes a hard sell for me but pretty much every Snape track has me saying things like 'whoa, this is great!' or 'this sounds like Adam & Eve-era Catherine Wheel!' so yeah

imago, Sunday, 11 February 2018 22:45 (one week ago) Permalink

Holy shit, the closing track!!!

imago, Sunday, 11 February 2018 23:01 (one week ago) Permalink

the Dashboard Album is not good.

fgti spinner (Spottie), Monday, 12 February 2018 17:10 (one week ago) Permalink

lol i like it. particularly "About Us" and the single ("Heart Beat Here"). a couple other tracks already growing on me.

Mordy, Monday, 12 February 2018 17:31 (one week ago) Permalink

has a few tracks I liked yeah but overall idk.

fgti spinner (Spottie), Monday, 12 February 2018 17:47 (one week ago) Permalink

just noticed that the PBtT album is available as a $1-or-more digital download from Bandcamp, with a special offer:

From now until February 19th, all Bandcamp sales from Pianos Become The Teeth's 'Wait For Love' digital downloads will benefit The Choice Program at UMBC. Name your price and Epitaph will match half your amount.

more punk than pop-punk I suppose but the new Turnstile album slaps

Simon H., Wednesday, 21 February 2018 14:32 (two days ago) Permalink

the (likely excellent) new Camp Cope album is also up at NPR.

Simon H., Thursday, 22 February 2018 14:21 (yesterday) Permalink

came here to post about the Camp Cope, I'm really liking this

Dinsdale, Thursday, 22 February 2018 20:22 (yesterday) Permalink

it kinda peters out near the end, but the first half is very strong

Simon H., Thursday, 22 February 2018 20:23 (yesterday) Permalink

Both those Turnstile and Camp Cope albums are exceptional; great week for new music

Evan R, Thursday, 22 February 2018 20:25 (yesterday) Permalink

Listening to awakebutstillinbed on repeat tonight.
