Yes, it's that time again. Nominate all you like. The spreadsheet will be updated regularly until December 19th after which point nominations will be closed.

Please nominate below in the usual format: Artist - Album. Please ctrl-f the thread to avoid listing duplicates!

The spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eK8B8ThEATrD09Nz16tWobqBvYrfKNaH5lHdYlrABKk/edit?usp=sharing

We also have an open Spotify playlist which anyone is free to populate:

https://open.spotify.com/user/pfunkboy/playlist/74IL7uL4YEy2tTiBYtRJ4G

The plan this time around is to leave the voting/campaigning period open till end of January, after the main trax/album polls close. This should give everyone plenty of time to campaign, bitch, pick up new faves, and VOTE at their own pace.

we might leave a week after that then to give anyone interested in voting a bit more time.

However I hope people will start listening to nominated albums now rather than wait for voting period OR after big poll results. (That means you especially Imago since you like to listen to everything before voting)

I understand if you want Uncanny Valley off the list. No hard feelings if it doesn't make the spreadsheet. To me its about as heavy as any Cleric, Deafheaven or Mt. Erie albums that have made it in the past. Certainly weaves through a lot of genre's but it's pretty extreme. But yeah, I guess noise/experimental/avant would be the primary genres.

Siegbran, Monday, 11 December 2017 15:22 (three days ago) Permalink

Will probably be voting for NM even if their frontman's disavowal of terrible beliefs was transparently disingenuous - it was a good album. I wish I knew nothing else about the band than their music

imago, Monday, 11 December 2017 15:25 (three days ago) Permalink

This will probably also ruin the chances of QOTSA winning.

Siegbran, Monday, 11 December 2017 16:46 (three days ago) Permalink

So is Eastern European exoticism part of Nokturnal Mortum's appeal? To be fair, I've only heard their first two records but they reminded me of post-1989 village wedding bands hellbent on showcasing their portable Yamaha keyboard at every gig.

Bell Witch will probably be on my ballot, but fairly low. the length really does make it a prohibitive thing.

I didn't like the Bell Witch album that much but I don't resent their popularity. But I seem to remember speculation about placings etc is frowned upon so I'll just say they weren't who I was thinking of and leave it at that.

Trying to think of something I haven't mentioned throughout the year... well I know some people round here like quasi-prog OSDM (name subject to change) so I'll boost the Execration - Return to the Void, it's a lot leaner than their previous album and maybe a sharper attack, in any case it's got those space monster vibes and great big dirty riffs that everyone should love.
