17 ballots total. Non voters with an opinion always welcome.

Gonna start with the sub polls:

–Fav Clan Member
–Albums

Bear with me as my results posting will most likely be a little sporadic.

feels kinda low for INS cos he has some of the most memorable wu verses, but his solo stuff is badddd

Spottie, Tuesday, 14 November 2017 23:36 (five days ago) Permalink

The group is so stacked, it's gonna be a whole parade of TOO LOWs until we get to number 1

bodak horseman (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 14 November 2017 23:39 (five days ago) Permalink

Deck is an easy person to overlook considering his lack of solo standouts

^ Nice. I've been quietly looking forward to this. Had to concede that my listening has been too Ghostface-centric to submit a fair ballot, but I'll certainly be reading with interest...

Maximum big surprise! (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Wednesday, 15 November 2017 06:48 (four days ago) Permalink

great graphics Spottie! Surprised ODB was so low, he was my #1

Neil S, Wednesday, 15 November 2017 07:30 (four days ago) Permalink

amen. graphics more than worth the wait. so stoked for this rollout

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 15 November 2017 08:20 (four days ago) Permalink

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 15 November 2017 15:58 (four days ago) Permalink

Yeah the graphics are great, nice work. GZA seems low but otherwise no real surprises here. I voted RZA #1, kind of biased as I'd been re-reading the Wu-Tang Manual just before voting and was swayed by how much he'd put into creating the mythology as well as the sound and feel of the records.

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 15 November 2017 16:21 (four days ago) Permalink

Wallets is p slapdash, feels like a collection of outtakes, but there are some really good tracks on it

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 15 November 2017 17:36 (four days ago) Permalink

yeah it ended up climbing my rankings a bit.

Spottie, Wednesday, 15 November 2017 17:40 (four days ago) Permalink

It's a lot of fun, but feels lightweight compared to a lot of other Ghost releases

Iron Flag has aged really well imo.

Spottie, Wednesday, 15 November 2017 18:05 (four days ago) Permalink

their "pop" record, I guess, but I love it.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 15 November 2017 18:12 (four days ago) Permalink

when i bought the cd i got the clean version on accident, so that's what i know, got all the little record scratches and sound fx memorized. was kinda weird hearing it with all the swears for the first time recently.

Spottie, Wednesday, 15 November 2017 18:15 (four days ago) Permalink

haha the first copy I got of 36 Chambers was also a clean version purchased by accident. Shame on a NUH!

yeah

Οὖτις, Thursday, 16 November 2017 00:01 (three days ago) Permalink

otm, i never understood the amount of acclaim that fishscale gets. It has good moments for sure, but a good chunk of the rapping on it feels kind of enervated and lifeless to me, at least compared to the ghost albums that preceded it

intheblanks, Thursday, 16 November 2017 00:10 (three days ago) Permalink

it's good but yeah the preceding ones are all better imo (ok maybe not Wallets)

not a lot of votes but those that did ranked this high (myself included).

Spottie, Thursday, 16 November 2017 00:21 (three days ago) Permalink

Fishscale was very high on my ballot, propelled by the Dilla and DOOM beats, plus Shakey Dog, Kilo, The Chanp to start it off

bodak horseman (voodoo chili), Thursday, 16 November 2017 00:22 (three days ago) Permalink

marcos, Thursday, 16 November 2017 00:52 (three days ago) Permalink

fuuuck... guys I’m the #1 for The W but only bc I assumed it would be unfairly overlooked. If I’d known there would only be 17 ballots I would have voted Forever easy.

I broke the Wu poll ;_;

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Thursday, 16 November 2017 00:56 (three days ago) Permalink

Both of the last 2 woulda been higher if I’d voted

Futuristic Bow Wow (thewufs), Thursday, 16 November 2017 00:57 (three days ago) Permalink

haha it's more fun this way. unpredictable

Spottie, Thursday, 16 November 2017 00:58 (three days ago) Permalink

I prefer “The W” to “36 chambers” even though the latter is more consistent

Futuristic Bow Wow (thewufs), Thursday, 16 November 2017 00:59 (three days ago) Permalink

that's crazy talk

Spottie, Thursday, 16 November 2017 01:02 (three days ago) Permalink

it's easily my least fav of their first 4

Spottie, Thursday, 16 November 2017 01:04 (three days ago) Permalink

it's so disjointed. four standouts (gravel pit, cant go to sleep, hollow bones, jump off and I like the monument too) and the rest is just... ok

Spottie, Thursday, 16 November 2017 01:07 (three days ago) Permalink

put pretty toney in my top 5 iirc, i love that whole damn sloppy emotional album

intheblanks, Thursday, 16 November 2017 01:07 (three days ago) Permalink

I don’t think it’s *better* than 36 Chambers

Futuristic Bow Wow (thewufs), Thursday, 16 November 2017 01:10 (three days ago) Permalink

I'm interested in why you prefer it.

Spottie, Thursday, 16 November 2017 01:22 (three days ago) Permalink

Oh by “last 2” I meant W and Fishscale, never really got into Pretty Toney the way other people seemed to. Felt like it was a step down both lyrically and beatwise. I realize this is not a popular take.

Futuristic Bow Wow (thewufs), Thursday, 16 November 2017 01:25 (three days ago) Permalink

W is just so grimy and weird, I dunno. A lot of it has to do with timing, too; between the time I first thought I was going to buy 36 Chambers and when I actually did was about 5 years, by which point it had accrued such mythos that it could never live up to what I had imagined it to be.

Futuristic Bow Wow (thewufs), Thursday, 16 November 2017 01:33 (three days ago) Permalink

that makes sense

Spottie, Thursday, 16 November 2017 06:54 (three days ago) Permalink

not much between the top 2, which seems fair. Cuban Linx is the Wu solo album I go back to most, but I voted 36 Chambers as my #1, on the unimaginative basis that it's where it all began

Neil S, Thursday, 16 November 2017 07:28 (three days ago) Permalink

hardly surprising, but a beautiful top 5

niels, Thursday, 16 November 2017 08:18 (three days ago) Permalink

I felt unqualified to vote in this and yet it turns out I own 12 of the top 13 albums on CD. Think I'm just daunted by the sheer volume of high quality material. Looking forward to the tracks rollout: next week's listening sorted!

Jeff W, Thursday, 16 November 2017 14:00 (three days ago) Permalink

Highly recommend the reconstructed version of the pre-release Bulletproof Wallets someone put together: http://claaa7.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/gfk-raekwon-bulletproof-wallets-c7.html

what up fellow OB4CL #1 voters

Οὖτις, Thursday, 16 November 2017 16:12 (three days ago) Permalink

Epic Records managed to fuck up the album quite heavily, switching the track sequencing, and completely deleting some of the highlights like "The Sun" (which Coles recently revealed had to be deleted since RZA couldn't find the original record he had sampled)

lol. too bad tho, because that song is incredible and would've def improved the album

Οὖτις, Thursday, 16 November 2017 16:15 (three days ago) Permalink

Iirc there was a whole archive on unreleased ghostface stuff going around, it wasn't just bulletproof wallets that had stuff cut.

One of my fav wu details is how many album covers are Rae and or ghost just casually hanging out
