Dammit - I did two searches and couldn't find a hit. Oh well. :)

My favorite is the title track.

Classic.

Basically from 1979-1986
they could do no wrong.

Birdmad Girl and Caterpillar are both great. The rest just makes me tense and anxious.

The MIGHTY BANANA SONG will rise!

The deluxe edition is probably one of the better ones, as far as the bonus material on the second disc goes. 'Ariel' is one of my favorite "lost" Cure songs. This really early radio session recording is even better.

I love the live stuff from this era as well.

And, it needs to be said, but between this and the preceding Japanese Whispers stuff, this is the closest we ever got to a Robert Smith solo album.

he doesn't need to be racist about it though. (Austin), Thursday, 10 August 2017 19:05 (two weeks ago) Permalink

My favourite Cure album.

My second favourite Cure album after the unimpeachable Pornography. But this is also pretty unimpeachable. I can't understand its inferior reputation. For a while, Smith was making some all-time psychedelia

I can't understand its inferior reputation either.

My fave cure. I associate it with several other utterly unique paisley pop records from those couple of years: Fegmania, Fried, Around the World in a Day.

Fried is in my top ten of all time and makes for an excellent point of reference to this. Will have to check out those other two!

Any other kindred records from that 83-85 kinda timespan I'm all ears

imago has not heard Around the World in a Day by Prince and the Revolution?????

Classic.
I agree with the poll. "The Empty World" is the only song I'm not that crazy about.

'The Empty World' rules - love the way the drums are treated on that track.

Has imago heard Around the World in a Day yet tho?

albvivertine, Friday, 18 August 2017 22:36 (six days ago) Permalink

My second favourite Cure album.

holy shit what is this

Can apply to 'The Top' AND 'Around the World in a Day'!

yesca, Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:39 (five days ago) Permalink

Yeah the latter. It was great! Also why does everyone hate the last track, it rules

imago, Saturday, 19 August 2017 14:53 (five days ago) Permalink

They were excellent live in this era, and the slightly deeper cuts from the record sounded mighty fine too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6PefcA58Ho

one of my favorites. it was the second, or maybe first, full Cure album I ever heard; concurrent with Distintegration. It was rather hard to find in the US for a long time, not sure why; some licensing issue. Still seems like it's the odd-album out in the run up through Wish, but I like it even more because of that. It's always struck me as their most psychedelic album.
