I like to check out new releases and January has a dearth of them, so I checked out an album from a band called The Regrettes called Feel Your Feelings Fool! (Warner Brothers) without knowing much about it.

I wrote on my Facebook page "The Regrettes have been called a Riot Grrl Ronettes but they're more pop than punk." And they are with some great pop hooks in the songs.
I caught the band in Philly last night (well, it was an all-ages matinee, so yesterday afternoon) and they were so fun and adorable, though the lyrics of Lydia Night, the group's now-seventeen year old singer, show she has a wisdom that belies her tender years and I can see her having a ton of young girls really look up to her

I thought that first video (Living Human Girl) was a little Meghan Trainor-y, but the song is good. The more stuff I listened to and watched, the better they got. Yeah, I like this.

the name is kind of amazing in that it was just right there and no one nabbed it until now

not bad at all, but this is a slightly slicked-up version of a sound/style that was popular in west coast indie circles a while back. somewhat weird to hear it coming from a major label 2017. no weirder than fidlar tho...

LA-based punk act The Regrettes have released a politically-charged new video for their song, "Seashore," off their critically acclaimed debut album, Feel Your Feelings, Fool! Entertainment Weekly premieres the video today, describing the video as, "a big middle-finger to men who underestimate or belittle young women." The video features singer Lydia Night depicting scenes of oppressed women throughout history. Director Claire Vogel explains, "I wanted to pair the defiance of the lyrics with a handful of historical vignettes that embrace women taking control of situations that have held them back. I wanted each scene to hint at how people might have freely spoken their inner thoughts in those moments should they have had the privilege." Yesterday, the band kicked off a headlining tour across the U.S., which will be followed by a U.K. tour with SWMRS this fall.

I dig this - totally captures the vibe of high school matinee punk shows (only more competent than the bands I was seeing at those shows in high school)

I found myself getting impatient with a whole album of this stuff when trying to listen to Feel Your Feelings Fool! (great title though), but I keep coming back to this kick-ass track:

I was toying with the idea of seeing them when they come by Philly but they're the second band playing on a four-band package and not sure I care enough about SWMRS or The Interrupters to stick around for them or pay $24 a ticket including fees to see them play maybe 45 minutes at most.

I like the album a lot. I was hooked by the loud fast ones, but I find myself really digging the longer, more ambitious ones too. Kids got talent.

I hope to be seeing them tomorrow, actually. They are playing the same night about a 12 minute walk from where Radkey is playing. I prefer The Regrettes but the wife likes Radkey better and she hasn't seen them yet. I am hopeful they are playing at different times so we can catch both shows. Fingers crossed.

The band seems to have fully embraced a new pop direction for the forthcoming if the single performed on Kimmel can attest.
