This is pretty much number one on the list of genres I want to listen to lately. My favorite band of this ilk right now is Peaness, whose new single is aces:

yay! was wondering if there was a rolling indiepop thread, Peaness is great.

this i came across on bandcamp has kinda stuck with me the last couple of weeks.

devvvine, Tuesday, 21 February 2017 19:35 (seven months ago) Permalink

Xpost Yeah right, good one. They also had a great single out on a Vancouver label last year which is not on the band's own bandcamp page but is on the label's:

heads up: trust fund are recording their new album with mitski's producer... they are undoubtedly my favourite twee-leaning group!

meaulnes, Tuesday, 21 February 2017 19:50 (seven months ago) Permalink

This one which just came out on Jigsaw from Seattle and has a different (women) singers from Vancouver bands singing songs written and played by the gal guitarist who wrote all the songs for Thee Ahs. Even though each song has a different singer it feels really cohesive. Kinda a Cocteau Twins feel to some of these songs, even veering into Fleetwood Mac territory at times, though it usually reigns it in and back to spacey introspective musings. This is my favourite one:

i like that foxy dads track! that record has a guest appearance by marissa cerio from the ace band big quiet

Think this probably has the requisite amount of handclaps to fit this thread

oh i like this

maura, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 18:11 (seven months ago) Permalink

:) Haven't listened to the album yet but the guitarist is in the similarly great Shopping.

devvvine, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 18:16 (seven months ago) Permalink

came here to post Sacred Paws who I saw on Sunday and were/are great. Rachel Aggs is probly one of my favourite guitar players of recent years

as it happens Peaness were playing a few hundred yards away, I haven't listened to them though

would the Courtneys fit in here

Maybe too much distortion? :P Good track, though.

I really dig the Sacred Paws album.

New single from Girl Ray has a Dolly Mixture vibe.

Those vocal harmonies are stunning. If the Beach Boys had been girls they would have sounded like this. Awesome song.

it's the distortion, stupid! (alex in mainhattan), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 18:51 (six months ago) Permalink

Really like the new Sacred Paws stuff, and love R Aggs completely, though I must confess I don't think of any of her bands as being tweepop! Maybe I'm too close to the scenes involved and see vast differences where in fact they are quite small in the wider ocean of music.

With the demise of FPop I guess the primo UK indiepop label crown has to go to Oddbox (who I particularly like because they put out scuzzy DIY bands as well as the so fresh so twee crowd):

After having missed a few I'm debating returning to Indietracks next year (probably won't make this upcoming one unless they suddenly decide to chase me down to play).

I'm cheating, probably, by linking Slumbers's short album from November 2016, but it's lovely and I haven't seen it mentioned on ILM:

I big upped them on the emo thread a while back but the Snail Mail EP will probably appeal to some twee folx

Courtneys -- a Vancouver Canada band on Flying Nun... Nice retro rockin sweet voiced pop

I am kinda underwhelmed by Stef Chura, a rougher-edged Chrissie Hynde

Knife Pleats played their first show in ages last night. I was not on time but the important thing is that they're back, baby.

Rose can do no wrong. About once a year I'll check to see what she's up to and it's always something new, and it's always good.

Pumarosa from London are not really twee but they seriously rule my world at the moment. They call themselves industrial spiritual, I'd say explosive hypnotic indiepop. Here is the mighty "Honey" live. The album "Witch" has been released last week.

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 22 May 2017 15:15 (four months ago) Permalink

saw this band in dublin last week and really liked them. 'olive' is particularly good

maura, Monday, 5 June 2017 13:32 (three months ago) Permalink

also peaness released an EP that collects some older songs and some new ones. 'seafoam islands' is still my favorite song of the year.

maura, Monday, 5 June 2017 13:34 (three months ago) Permalink

Not sure if you want only guitar jangle tweepop or if electronic tweepop fits the bill for this thread, but my gal Deerful just released her debut album and it is banging:

new sweet baboo is nice

little songs directed at a young child, i think. some of the songs get me a little bleary eyed being a new father and all. nice stuff.

Chickfactor 25 - 11/12 November at the Lexington, London:

KITES AT NIGHT (feat Rose Melberg)

STEVIE JACKSON (from Belle & Sebastian)

I probably wouldn't have put a Kicking Giant reunion high on my list, but I'm unexpectedly happy about it anyway. I am however quite expectedly excited about seeing the Softies.

Thanks for the recommendations, Maura. I've been really out of the loop on indiepop for a long time. My wife found an online radio show called B0ardcast a couple of years ago and we got into some newer bands through that but the DJ changed style a year or so ago and doesn't play that kind of music anymore.

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 13:36 (two months ago) Permalink

I'm really digging this album today: Bit of a jangle pop thing going on.

That's a great song, the video is terrible though. No lip synching, ridiculous costumes, totally over the top. But I don't feel that the music is twee. But it is very tuneful and danceable. In the end I always ask myself what twee is. The Field Mice, The Sundays, Everything But the Girl?

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 1 August 2017 18:55 (one month ago) Permalink

That groove cannot be twee. Too sexy to be twee.

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 1 August 2017 19:08 (one month ago) Permalink

I love that Matinée Records is still around and still plugging away. Here's a comp they put out a couple of months ago with an old-ish track from Catenary Wires (Amelia Fletcher's new band - they're playing the Chickfactor London gig in November) and some really fun new stuff. My picks are Last Leaves and Strawberry Whiplash.

wow new even as we speak! that IS big news. and that star tropics album really grows on you.

TOPS remind me of Stars, the first record. Seems like the new album is going to be really good. It could be twee, Even As We Speak and the Orchids got a groove on once in a while.

Any Chorusgirl fans here? Their s/t album was one of my favorites from 2015 and I'm happy to see they've been recording album #2 this summer. Their website references Lush, Cure, Breeders, Bangles; also have seen comparisons to Dum Dum Girls and Veronica Falls, all of which I suppose are accurate, but the overall vibe of the first record reminded me most of the Aislers Set's "How I Learned to Write Backwards." Don't think they've released any of the new material yet but looking forward to it.
