i know the other thread was bumped but this is the line-up.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 04:12 (five months ago) Permalink

The XX on the big stage right before Radiohead. i do wonder if they can pull it off?

Bee OK, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 04:13 (five months ago) Permalink

Well they can pull the same dance moves that Thom Yorke does.

dance cum rituals (Moka), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 05:39 (five months ago) Permalink

So sweet that Future Islands are second-line-of-poster-text big, still so mind blowing.

flappy bird, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 06:13 (five months ago) Permalink

I guess there's no bands left to reunite.

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 06:26 (five months ago) Permalink

New Order, oh wait.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 15:08 (five months ago) Permalink

The continuing success of Father John Misty further reveals we are a fallen world.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 15:29 (five months ago) Permalink

Also I'm amused at how last year at this time the Avalanches would have commanded some sort of near-top-of-bill thing if they'd been announced and now, there they are, buried away in the lineup on Saturday.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 15:30 (five months ago) Permalink

And right there at the bottom on Saturday, a current costar of Rogue One and his bandmate.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 15:32 (five months ago) Permalink

Lol what happened to the Avalanches? Did that album just brick?

flappy bird, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 16:03 (five months ago) Permalink

Shocked that Beyonce is the first woman to headline Coachella in 10 years (!!)

flappy bird, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 19:37 (five months ago) Permalink

a current costar of Rogue One and his bandmate.

For me this is still 'Heems from Das Racist and his bandmate'

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 19:39 (five months ago) Permalink

It can very much go either way.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 19:41 (five months ago) Permalink

I've had the displeasure of seeing Future Islands twice now and they are the most miserable band I've ever seen in my life.

kurt schwitterz, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 19:50 (five months ago) Permalink

I'm also puzzled by the placing of Empire of the Sun and Justice. People really are clamouring for 2007/2008, huh

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 19:58 (five months ago) Permalink

So wait, Ned, what's with the Avalanches getting shit billing? Was it the album or something else? Heard rumors they were booked at p4k fest and flaked or something.

flappy bird, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:05 (five months ago) Permalink

They were a mysterious band that went away for 15 years, but now the album came out and they're just another band. "The Return of The Avalanches" would have garnered a more prominent placement than just "The Avalanches"

altony rightano (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:07 (five months ago) Permalink

What voodoo chili said.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:08 (five months ago) Permalink

(Seeing Guided by Voices anonymously plonked in the middle of Friday is also telling.)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:09 (five months ago) Permalink

Eight or so indifferent "reunion" albums in 2/3 years will do that.

not sure where this "beyonce NEVER does festivals" narrative is coming from, she did glastonbury in 2011

Gotcha. yeah seeing GBV in eye-straining font bummed me out

flappy bird, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:22 (five months ago) Permalink

Whitney, Honne, King Sunny Ade, Shura, Guided by Voices, Lee Fields in the small section is sad. Then again I don' know who any of these 'headliners' on the first three lines are: Mac Miller, Steve Angello, Big Gigantic, The Head and the Heart, Tory Lanez, Marshmello, Lil Uzi Vert, Kehlani.

dance cum rituals (Moka), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:34 (five months ago) Permalink

Their names all sound like they live in a frat house.

dance cum rituals (Moka), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:35 (five months ago) Permalink

token indie rock dude, idk, shitty EDM jam band, corny pop-folk, sing-y rapper, idk, rapper, r&b singer i think?

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:38 (five months ago) Permalink

oh wait i mean token indie rock dude frat rapper turned Stones Throw-ish rapper. i sometimes confuse mac miller and mac demarco.

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:40 (five months ago) Permalink

Mac DeMarco's on the bill too! Same day, same line on the poster even!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 20:46 (five months ago) Permalink

Let's hear their top songs on spotify:

Mac Miller - My Favorite Part
Mall neo-soul. It's not that bad but no idea why so many people vibes to this... sounds inoffensive.

Steve Angello - Show Me Love
Ew! What a horrid Robin S EDM remix. Had to skip... fuck whoever listens to this.

Big Gigantic - All of Me
Jazz-hop with some dubstep thrown in there... this also sounds annoyingly watered down.

The Head and the Heart - All We Ever Knew
Hahaha you're kidding me. This sounds like the type of songs corny people put on their wedding videos.

Tory Lanez - LUV
Ah, this is alright. Kind of like the Dancehall Hip Hop sound Mad Decent has been pushing for the past years. 128M listens for this song on Spotify! Whoa guess it was huge in the US.

Marshmello - Alone
Kind of like the french house/trap that Porter Robinson and Madeon do much better. This also sounds annoying but I guess as a live show with videos and lights it could be interesting.

Lil Uzi Vert - You Was Right
This is nice... I suppose Trap is the US equivalent of Reggaeton down here in latinamerica in terms of popularity? I like it but I'd get bored of a full concert of this style.

Kehlani - Gangsta
R&B similar to FKA Twigs.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 January 2017 17:44 (five months ago) Permalink

i mean anything w/ that kind of money behind it probably has some shady dudes running it but it's just nice to have an event i object to (for no personal reason other than i find festivals and the summer circuit stupid) be explicitly tied to Horror

tylerw, Thursday, 5 January 2017 18:05 (five months ago) Permalink

He might be anti gay but he is not anti-money. 4 of the headliners are gay (empire of the sun, new order, porter robinson, madeon) and I'd say at least 90% of the lineup is pro-gay.

dance cum rituals (Moka), Thursday, 5 January 2017 18:11 (five months ago) Permalink

I think Romy from the XX is gay too?

I watched a bit of the Future Islands set last night. Coachella really is better at home! We're finally at a point where these live streams are reliable & high-quality. Except when the sound goes out at the actual festival.

flappy bird, Monday, 17 April 2017 19:35 (two months ago) Permalink

I watched a bit of Future's set from my couch at home. Am guessing the backing video screen (that one point featured large female butt cheeks) seemed a bit different live there, depending where in the crowd one was situated.
