one more with Hayley harmonies!

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 15 May 2017 21:40 (six years ago) link

this is like the first time i heard fearless and thought half of the choruses on that record were rebranded mainstream emo

I guess i've gone full circle. Fearless is probably a large touchstone for what I might consider modern country, even though it was almost a decade ago.

Huh. Lots of prerecorded stuff there, especially with six people on stage. I was curious how they would pull it off.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 18 May 2017 13:48 (six years ago) link

Went out and bought the album day of release at Target, which Hayley loves, so that was appropriate.

I also got the DIY magazine issue with them on the cover in the mail. It’s tiny.

Yah?

the ghost of markers, Friday, 19 May 2017 22:20 (six years ago) link

Love how the plot of "Rose-Colored Boy" is basically a direct inverse of the archetypal manic pixie dream girl narrative.

you are the waaaave

I still love this

Would you say you’re still into it???

the ghost of markers, Friday, 26 May 2017 00:30 (six years ago) link

I need to listen to this. It's not the sort of thing I want to listen to in the background while I'm online (since the English lyrics will be too distracting). I think the best thing for me to do is buy a copy and listen in the car.

_Rudipherous_, Friday, 26 May 2017 00:33 (six years ago) link

After all this time?

Tim F, Friday, 26 May 2017 00:33 (six years ago) link

I think I love every song on this album now.

kinda want to know what the og straightforward rock arrangement of "caught in the middle" was like

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 26 May 2017 01:07 (six years ago) link

"Caught in the Middle" and "26" are the only ones that still haven't unbuttoned their shirts for me.

I gotta be honest I regularly skip like 5 songs on Paramore (and I don't mean the interludes)

love this one but BNE remains the best.

Caught in the Middle feels like a No Doubt album cut. While I like the idea of Paramore going ska, I wish there was more of a chorus. 26 is amazing though! At first I didn't think it lived up to Hate to See Your Heartbreak for me, as far as Paramore country attempts go, but sonically, it really feels like a lost Taylor Swift ballad circa Fearless or Speak Now.

Let the record reflect that I was OTM about "Grudges" upthread.

You were.

how's life, Friday, 26 May 2017 14:01 (six years ago) link

I think of "26" as a sequel to "Misguided Ghosts", which is one of the three ~perfect songs~ on Brand New Eyes.

But yeah there is something kinda Taylor about it.

Tim F, Friday, 26 May 2017 14:13 (six years ago) link

I've been listening to "Tell Me How" on repeat lately

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 26 May 2017 14:15 (six years ago) link

Dang, jealous that you all connected with this so much. I burned out on it pretty fast.

It's well crafted and has some solid songs but I think it's kinda tacky.

I was thinking to myself yesterday "man, Fake Hpapy would be a great next single if it weren't for that pesky intro" then lo and behold there it is on Spotify with the intro shorn off

btw riot! came out ten years ago today

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 12 June 2017 19:41 (six years ago) link

So this album has been a sales flop eh

I was hoping that "Hard Times" or "Told You So" would end up as a slow-burn hit the way "Ain't It Fun" did but I guess that's looking unlikely
