Girls In Airports (and other ambient jazz / jazztronic / neo-jazz / post-jazz stuff)

I can't stop listening to this excellent Danish instrumental band. Particularly good for long train journeys and a nice change from the modern jazz I've been immersed in these last couple of years.

That's along with stuff like Dawn of Midi, Go Go Penguin, Sons of Kemet, Bohren & der Club of Gore, Polar Bear etc - all of whom seem to be doing various combinations of jazz, electronica and post-rock to some degree.

Do you like them too?

This is the one that got me hooked:

And this is the title track off their most recent album. There's a holy shit! moment when it all kicks in:

Not sure if it's just because I'm conscious of where they're from, but that track (Fables) really reminds me of the kind of production that When Saints Go Machine might use.

New Jazztronica album by The Comet is Coming

THE COMET IS COMING – CHANNEL THE SPIRITS – EXCLUSIVE FULL ALBUM STREAM
http://www.jazzwisemagazine.com/breaking-news/14141-the-comet-is-coming-channel-the-spirits-exclusive-album-preview

Sax-led jazztronica trio The Comet Is Coming are set to release their debut album, Channel The Spirits, on the Leaf Label on 1 April, and Jazzwise is proud to present a first listen to the record below. The band’s incendiary Sun Ra-inspired sound of hypnotic sax lines, throbbing electro synths and propulsive beats is whipped up by King Shabaka (Shabaka Hutchings), Danalogue The Conqueror (Dan Leavers) and Betamax Killer (Max Hallett) respectively.

I think I asked this elsewhere but is it worth a new thread for ambient/nu/new-age jazz or happy here?

Anyway, a nice mixtape from Aquarium Drunkard: https://aquariumdrunkard.com/2024/03/25/light-pollution-the-roots-of-ambient-jazz/

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Friday, 5 April 2024 19:22 (one week ago) link
