Yeah, EW&F would take this in a walk even if Maurice White hadn't just died. Their '70s run is pretty much unimpeachable. Kool & The Gang had a bunch of good songs, but Earth, Wind & Fire had like six or seven amazing albums in a row.

going with Kool & the Gang, but only for their pre-pop, pure funk stuff. Along with the JBs, one of the best jazz-influenced funk bands ever.

haven't heard any kool and the gang albums, they're not as cheap and plentiful as EWF, ime.

but they're classic for "summer madness" and "get down on it"

i think this is not as clear cut as 誤訳侮辱 makes it out to be.

as for EWF's 70s run, i love the first three (s/t, "last days and times" and ESPECIALLY "need of love") but often find the rest a bit ... overcooked.

also, kool & the gang had a pretty good 70s album run too. imo all the albums from "live at pj's" to "love & understanding" are super tight ... that's an eight-album run (compare to ten albums for EW&F's 70s output)

First time I ever heard "Celebration" was when a friend who led an arty punk/funk band brought it to a party and danced to it with mad abandon about eight times in a row. I love some EWF, but I don't have a similar defining moment with them, so Kool wins this for me.

Have you heard their first 3 albums, when they were more of a funk rock band? very different feel from the later hits

Yeah, I only got into them pretty recently because I always used to find them a bit too maximalist and UnFunky. They really did the most.

Heard September twice while out shopping this weekend. That's the best Home Depot's in-store play has done since they were featuring I Feel Love.

looking at their discography, I don't think so...? Def familiar with their stuff from the mid-70s on
