I remember hearing them a while ago and dismissing them as generic math-rock but that song's pretty good!

Ooh, I was actually planning on making a thread for their new album, had the title in my head and all.
I'm stopping myself from listening to the stream because I want a higher quality audio release but it sounds very good indeed.
Their last album THE was my favorite album of 2013, and probably my most successful musical missionary effort, since quite a lot of people I gave it to agreed. Fully formed debut, gorgeous details revealing themselves through repeat listens. While waiting for the new album I suggest listening to it if you're unfamiliar with the group. Their music is on Spotify http://open.spotify.com/album/3OnXkM3qNaABUR3vgb4i5O

I like them but my Japanese girlfriend absolutely hates them, so they're banned from our household. She listens to different stuff like B'z, Mr.Children, Glay, Utada Hikaru, etc., though.

dumb name but these two songs are cool
― Dinsdale, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 22:27 (nine years ago) link
They're unlikely to hire a permanent new drummer anytime soon http://beehy.pe/interview-tricot-japan/
but listening to it that mix of drummers doesn't really define the album in any way. The woman they brought on live tours last year did a great job: http://youtu.be/hW_ayjXr1Lk

They took turns to play a song then all five did a bit of a drum circle thing in the middle of one track.

Actually, I prefer their older stuff.
If I had to rank their releases:
1. 小学生と宇宙 (School Children and The Cosmo)2. 爆裂パニエさん (Bakuretsu Tricot-san)3. T H E4. A N D5. バキューン ("Bakyuun")
A N D is still pretty cool, though

First half is great, but it got a bit too Math in the second half and lost me. (Rock isn’t generally my thing though. I was coming at this as a J Pop fan and knew nothing about the band hitherto.)

I really liked their Fender-y light sound on the early stuff - the newer material is thicker and I can't lose myself in the interplay as much. I reckon it will improve once I've listened more, but unlike their previous albums this one's not on Bandcamp so I can't buy it very easily.
― an incoherent crustacean (MatthewK), Thursday, 13 February 2020 01:18 (four years ago) link
Yeah, it's ironic that signing to a bigger label has likely improved their status in Japan, but handicapped them w/r/t growing their US audience. (The new record is on US Spotify, though.)
