not sure if this thread will have any traction, but I can't seem to find any other threads on current music from India (and the surrounding countries are cool here too) been in Mumbai for a work a couple times lately and I keep finding myself searching out high-register pop when I get back home, tonnes to sort thru though, any chance anyone here is into this stuff as well? here are a couple I like to start...

I bought a Daler Mehndi MP3 disc from Amazon (in order to get free shipping, really) and it was great - only like 6 of the 30 songs were actually him, it felt more like a compilation of 90's hit singles from India, including this song based off "Ice Ice Baby" (though Baba Seghal says the similarity is coincidential)

Judaai is spectacular, I don't exactly have much an understanding of a narrative around all of this music, but it seems that Arijit Singh is on both Judaai and Sooraj Dooba Hain, so I will definitely be checking out his back catalog. (it also seems Arijit worked with Pritam on his 2012 work, including Raabta). not sure if anyone has some knowledge on the ebb and flow of these composers/performers? or where to find that sort of thing?

I sorta like Bollywood hiphop. They know they have no chance in hell of accurately hitting one sound, so they throw everything and the kitchen sink in it. Catchy brass sample as well.

anyway, curmudgeon, where did you see Asha? would love to have been able to catch her, i was trying to listen to Dil Padosi Hai the other day, but it just click for me like her film songs.

I saw her at Wolf Trap Farm Park, in a Virginia suburb of Washington DC. There's a large Indian population here, and the crowd was nearly all Indian/South Asian. A 10,000 seat location (4,000 seats in roof covered but open-air on the side pavilion and 6,000 lawn seats). She had cool backdrop visuals alternating between Bollywood looking clips and psychedelic imagery). She had her granddaughter dance and sing for a song or 2 as well. Granddaughter was good but not great.

Haven't kept up with this as much as I wanted at all, but this is a pretty cool synth-pop song, really shows how easy the hindi elements combine with western pop.

i am sucker for bollywood love songs this year, been listening to Love You Zindagi from Dear Zindagi a lot lately. Ironically i also like Pritam's The Breakup Song too which has to be the most joyous song ever written with Breakup in the title.

Also does anyone know if there is a specific release schedule for their movie?, I assume there must be certain times they aim to release movies, maybe they aim for the holidays? I feel like Bollywood this fall has been way better than the rest of the year.
