The albums due "early 2010" now isn't it?

Got a bad feeling this album is going to be delayed and delayed and come out 12 months after their moment has passed.

Haven't listened to the Aeroplane mix yet, but the Horse Meat Disco one from the first hour of the show is pretty tasty so far

Have tickets to see them in a few weeks in Manchester, but don't think I'll be able to go. Think I'm seeing them at New Year's, though.

Busy P's the only one who does anything audible there
― Dandy Don Draper (sic), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:35 (fourteen years ago) link
Erol and Joakim are only lip synching. Or stick-synching as the case may be. What is the point of them? ;-)
― ...and the wizard blew his horn (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:38 (fourteen years ago) link
Joakim brought Erol a beer behind the decks at the Disco 3000 club show on Sunday, I guess that's the point of him at least
― Dandy Don Draper (sic), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:50 (fourteen years ago) link
(Junior Boys' drummer soundchecked by playing along with Joakim's records during the day though, I was disappointed when he stopped!)
― Dandy Don Draper (sic), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:53 (fourteen years ago) link
No wonder Busy P and Erol and Joakim have been hanging out so much on this tour. They're probably the only men in that scene in whose company the other one never has to worry about feeling like a shortarse.
Didn't Joakim take along his own drummer? WHen I saw him a few weeks ago, he had the full band with him, and they were discotastic.
― ...and the wizard blew his horn (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:56 (fourteen years ago) link
nah, was originally announced as band, but in the end he was just DJing :(
what a disaster for Tiga
― Dandy Don Draper (sic), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:59 (fourteen years ago) link
Tiga comes up to, like, Erol's kneecap. I was actually quite shocked when I found out that Busy P is even *taller* than Erol. I thought Erol was the tallest guy in teh world except for, like, that 10 foot dude in China and that 11 foot Turkish dude who just came over here and posed next to Tower Bridge for laughs.
That's a shame you didn't get the full band but I suppose it's hard enough to fit that lot on the plane there was no room for anyone else.
― ...and the wizard blew his horn (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 15:04 (fourteen years ago) link
OK, I take it back, Here's one where you can actually hear Alkan - he's not that bad!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsYj6vRzn4Q
However, note how Tiga runs away when he realises he's sandwiched between Busy P and Erol - who STILL manages to be TALLER than him, even sitting down and slouching.
I'm so easily amused.

I always thought Aeroplane had gotten Au Revoir Simeone to sing on their Paris remix.
The interview says they're actually on the original Friendly Fires version all along.
― plazzTT, Thursday, 8 October 2009 14:32 (fourteen years ago) link
OMG THIS LOOKS LIKE EVIDENCE THAT JOAKIM MIGHT BE EVEN TALLER THAN "TALLEST MAN IN POP" PEDRO!

OK, never mind I've totally derailed this thread with fangurling about the Australian tour. I do apologise.
ha ha, sorry plazzTT didn't mean to x-post with you, but you should be used to this from me.

What is?
That Aeroplane remix of Paris? Coz I'll punch anyone that disses that!
or comparing the relative heights and smashabilities of the DJs on the Parklife tour? Don't be silly. I respect them all for their remixes. Their smashability and L O O O N N G G ness is only the icing on the objectification cake.

yeah i spotted that too! does anyone know if ARS are on the original 'paris' or if they rerecorded it? can barely hear any female vocal on the original track

Aeroplane's TOP REMIX of 2009 was Kilometer, anyway.
― ...and the wizard blew his horn (Masonic Boom), Friday, 9 October 2009 10:09 (fourteen years ago) link
They only did two remixes, it's not exactly a crowded field.
― Matt DC, Friday, 9 October 2009 10:17 (fourteen years ago) link
Is that all? It seems like they did a lot more.
Anyway, I'm in love with that song that everyone is playing along with:

beats in space mix is def. my favourite mix of theirs
― cozwn (webinar), Monday, 12 October 2009 17:09 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah its not as mixed as their proper sets but the tuuuunes! are these all quite obscure italo/ 80s disco tracks or are these pretty well known if you're into italo?
― piscesx, Monday, 12 October 2009 21:02 (fourteen years ago) link
I'd say quite a few of them are well-known classics, but then a couple are ones that I stuck on a mix last week, thinking they were less-played (the Mike Mareen and the Warlords). Guess I was wrong!
I *haven't* heard anyone else play "The Ultimate Warlord" out much though, which I find surprising since it's such a bonkers track. I might just not be hearing enough mixes lately though.
― lou reed scott walker monks niagra (chinavision!), Monday, 12 October 2009 21:09 (fourteen years ago) link
is there a REALLY good italo compilation? or a box set or something? i must get into the whole thing one of these days.
― piscesx, Monday, 12 October 2009 21:19 (fourteen years ago) link
^ this one is pretty great, also check out i-f's 'mixed up in the hague' mix for a nice primer.
stuff like lime and dharma is on the more well-known end of italo but there's some pretty obscure stuff in there too. the BIS mix is good but they've had loads of great mixes in the last few years. i may be alone with this but i am a huge fan of nearly all of the monthly chart mixes from this year- turned me on to some great, current, populist dance tracks that i probably would have written off otherwise (classixx remixes, leo zero remix of florence and the machine, grum, lindstrom remix of "jetstream", lots more)

Anyone here who likes old Aeroplane DJ mixes better than the newer ones? If you hear stuff like their RA Podcast and Flying Mix, it sounds noticably different than the recent ones. They seem to lost their touch a bit. By the way, is there any live recordings of Aeroplane DJ set? I'd like to hear how they are live.
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 12 October 2009 21:53 (fourteen years ago) link
I think the old ones are better too, but they're actual proper mixes whereas the more recent ones are just a load of new records they like spliced together in half an hour when they get bored of doing the album.
― Matt DC, Monday, 12 October 2009 22:46 (fourteen years ago) link
I prefer the lushness (typical me) of the early mixes too though.
