Most awesome Halloween costume idea EVA award goes to Roxy.

Yeah, he just put those beans back in his head and carried on after that. (xpost)

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 01:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Thank you, Stan. It received mixed reviews. My sister kept telling me I looked "gross" and got Dead mixed up with the Manic Street Preachers (this was after I was in full costume, including corpsepaint [had to wear it for recognizability, even though it is not in the photo, obv]). I got 3 people asking if I was Euronymous, which I almost count as a positive ID, because it is so close (yet so far...). I got one girl who asked if I was someone from Dimmu Borgir which definitively DOES NOT count as a positive ID.

And another guy grabbed my arm and goes "your costume totally wins." He probably knew the score. And another guy was just really geared up about my shirt and started going on and on about Satanic themed cabinetry he was currently designing, or something.

i actually have a lot in common with him! he believes in yokelism, like i do:

"They're all deluded. People should worry about what happens on their block. They should get along with their neighbors before they worry about the great ills of society and about telling someone who lives 200 miles away what to do."

He describes conventional politics as a parlor game played out to 19th-century rules while consumerism paves the planet and wipes out unique cultures. He says he never votes. He says vast nation-states are a ridiculous way to organize society, and that a tribal mosaic of small, tightly bonded groups would better suit a human nature he views as largely unchanged from ancient times.

"The only realistic way I would want to deal with society is on some sort of small level of people who have something in common, who look out for each other," he says."

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 2 November 2006 05:35 (seventeen years ago) link

"This is in response to a question from a snotty 15-year-old punk rocker, and that's the spirit in which it was answered with this sort of incendiary statement," he says."

he's talking about my friend joseph. but he was more like 18, probably. he is pretty snotty though.

Finally reading Lords of Chaos. Does it ever address whether or not Dead was openly or otherwise white supremacist, or has this been discussed elsewhere?

I never mentioned it on this thread, but the owner of the Pilot Light made fun of my dead Dead costume mentioned upthread. While dressed as a boy scout.

Quel douche.

roxymuzak, Monday, 6 August 2007 02:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Dead? I didn't personally know him so others might be better placed to judge that but the few people around him I knew always described him as a total (but likeable) misanthrope with an unhealthy fascination with death. The whole supremacist/nordic theme only caught on in that scene years after his death.

Siegbran, Monday, 6 August 2007 13:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, that's certainly the impression they give in Lords of Chaos. Was Varg the one who kickstarted the white supremacist thing within the Norwegian scene, then?

roxymuzak, Monday, 6 August 2007 18:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow. "Why kill one today, if you can kill them all tomorrow?"

This should be on the Varg thread!

roxymuzak, Monday, 6 August 2007 20:19 (sixteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Dead continues to be more interesting to me than Varg, Euronymous, et al combined.

roxymuzak, Tuesday, 21 August 2007 03:23 (sixteen years ago) link

he totally lived up to his black metal name

latebloomer, Tuesday, 21 August 2007 03:28 (sixteen years ago) link

As Lords of Chaos unconvincingly repeats, they all did.

I especially like the beginning, when Hellhammer (?) appears to shower Pelle with dandelion flurries.

The Annie + Varg story is all true. I JUST KNOW that i read an interview where she comments about some black metal stuff, but i can't find it.

Someone corroborate this!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2005/03/03/bmwest03.xml

As 2am looms at the Spellemannprisen aftershow party, held in the opulent Grand Hotel in Oslo, Annie kicks off her spearmint-green high heels. It has taken a good hour for her to cross the party, receiving congratulations and dispensing bright "hellos" to acquaintances including Necrobutcher, bassist of notorious black metal outfit Mayhem.

StanM, Monday, 28 January 2008 18:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow. Ok, but specifically about her dating Varg?!

roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 18:51 (sixteen years ago) link

searching

:-)

Wish I spoke Norwegian though, because I can't find much more at the moment.

StanM, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Here she is in a VH1 interview, talking about her record collection - Mayhem is the last one in the list, but she doesn't say anything personal.

StanM, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Annie was 14 when Varg Vikernes was arrested for Euronymous's murder. I guess it still could've been possible that they dated before that (Vikernes was himself only 19 then), but I'm not sure how likely that is.

Tuomas, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:10 (sixteen years ago) link

I thought he was 21?

roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Not according to Wikipedia.

Tuomas, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Sheesh.

roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:19 (sixteen years ago) link

High school thing, probably - she only moved to Bergen when she was 13, according to Wikipedia again. So it must have been when she was between 13-15, if it really happened.

StanM, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I think Vikernes was already in jail when she turned 15.

Tuomas, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:23 (sixteen years ago) link

If he set that church on fire in 1992, then that may have happened while he was having a high school relationship with ... (uh oh, do you think that's why this is so hard to find?)

StanM, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:28 (sixteen years ago) link

doesnt he talk about having a gf at the time of the murder who had an apt and went to techno clubs or something? that would give me the idea that she was older.

chaki, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:30 (sixteen years ago) link

I think the varg/annie thing is either not true or better kept quiet...

StanM, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:33 (sixteen years ago) link

(Should we ask the mods to ungoogle this thread just in case Annie is trying to hide all of this?)

StanM, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Haw, you can't be serious!
