kill bill is too loud and cluttered, it's like a migraine. womanizer is perfect :)
― surm, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:59 (sixteen years ago)
It's totally essential, it's the big brassy blow-out at the end. Ending with 'Go Shawty' wouldn't be much cop.
That whole electro-schaffel-pop signature has got so tired to me that Electrik Red turning it up *really loud* and adding some righteous anger kind of invigorated it for me. When Britney released Womanizer my response was more "oh, another one".
― Matt DC, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:59 (sixteen years ago)
I dunno, if you're threatening to kill someone it's probably good to do it really loudly. Either that or with whispering menace.
― Matt DC, Monday, 21 September 2009 15:00 (sixteen years ago)

if electrik red "realeased" kill bill what would your reaction be?
― the nader of civilization (k3vin k.), Monday, 21 September 2009 15:03 (sixteen years ago)
mine would be let me go to the bathroom and throw up
― surm, Monday, 21 September 2009 15:03 (sixteen years ago)
released* obv
― the nader of civilization (k3vin k.), Monday, 21 September 2009 15:05 (sixteen years ago)
oh yeah i always forget that "electrik city" isn't actually the album closer, even though it is PERFECT in that role - finishing the album with that deadpan "ELECTRIK. RED."
― lex pretend, Monday, 21 September 2009 15:06 (sixteen years ago)
^^^ My ipod plays it this way too.
I like "Kill Bill" and agree with Matt here but it shouldn't be a single.
― Tim F, Monday, 21 September 2009 15:33 (sixteen years ago)
The group is currently in the works of filming a video for next single "P Is For Power".
^^ i seriously doubt any more singles are going to be pushed off this record but man that's almost as bad an idea as "Kill Bill" would be imo
― Autogoon Almanac (some dude), Monday, 21 September 2009 15:51 (sixteen years ago)
nah p is for power is the most obvious single of the bunch i thought. like a raunchy hollaback girl
― Jacques_Lamure, Monday, 21 September 2009 19:59 (sixteen years ago)
hmmmm not a bad point
― surm, Monday, 21 September 2009 20:02 (sixteen years ago)
i disagree - not sure the kind of open space that song deals w/ is their best look for radio. "friend lover" is the obvious next single for me. it aint "kill bill" for sure tho
― the nader of civilization (k3vin k.), Monday, 21 September 2009 20:13 (sixteen years ago)
trying to keep a straight face of course while discussing "singles" and electrik fuckin red is a good time tho
― the nader of civilization (k3vin k.), Monday, 21 September 2009 20:14 (sixteen years ago)
yea friend lover. i dunno i'm bad at singles cuz like, what's catchiest for me is generally not the same.
― surm, Monday, 21 September 2009 20:17 (sixteen years ago)
surely friend lover has already been a single what with its strong video unless yall mean worthy of re-release (which it is)
― unban dictionary (blueski), Monday, 21 September 2009 20:23 (sixteen years ago)
"Friend Lover" was already a single.
lex & MDC otm re: "Kill Bill"

ha, my point exactly, sadly
― the nader of civilization (k3vin k.), Monday, 21 September 2009 20:29 (sixteen years ago)
Listening through the album, sounds to me like the non-Naomi lead vocals are:
Rap on "Muah": Binkie
Responce lines during verses on "Freaky Freaky": BinkiePre-chorus on "Freaky Freaky": Leslie (the Milian-sounding one, right?)
Bridge on "Bed Rest": Sarah (the nasally-sounding one, right?)
Chorus on "Friend Lover": Leslie
Verses on "P Is For Power": SarahRap on "P Is for Power": BinkieI think Leslie splits lines with Naomi in the bridge of that one, too
Verses on "W.F.Y.": LesliePre-chorus/chorus on "W.F.Y.": SarahBridge on "W.F.Y.": Binkie
"On Point": Binkie
Intro on "Drink in My Cup": LeslieRap on "Drink in My Cup: Binkie
"I'm coming" part on "Go Shawty": Sarah
"Kill Bill" except for some Naomi lines and some Terius interjections: Leslie

Good god this album is ridiculous. Pretty ardent pop follower and I hadn't heard of it till I noticed this thread. Only halfway through the thing, but record of the year by a mile already.

Don't mean to put him on the spot but I'd love it if Tim wrote and pitched more! (His forthcoming Electrik Red review will unite us all.)

Eagerly awaiting the surprise appearance of Electrik Red in the P4K Top 25 of 2009, leading to Lex having a stroke.
― Binkie & The-Dream: One is a Terius, the other's insAY!ne (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:24 (sixteen years ago)
cool! i'm curious if the non indie-minded pitchfork writers have any sort of limit to their freedom with this sort of thing. on the one hand i don't see anyone intervening if he gave it a glowing review, but then anything over an 8.7 is equally unimaginable. not that tim necessarily thinks "how to be a lady vol.1" is 9.0 material, but if he did would it get published? seems those sort of reviews are reserved for album-as-art statement-type, "significant" indie albums.
― samosa gibreel, Friday, 23 October 2009 03:02 (sixteen years ago)
all three of the terius-produced albums this year deserve 8.7 at the very fucking least

yeah i agree with you lex, but all i'm saying is i feel like there seems to be a limit to the praise a non-staff favourite album can get.
― samosa gibreel, Friday, 23 October 2009 11:39 (sixteen years ago)
Why is the Electrik Red album being reviewed for Pfork, but they haven't managed to review The-Dream to this point? I mean, dudes at Pfork love them some Kanye and I see the overlap in their fanbases as being pretty significant. Just wondering. Maybe it's like the Erykah album where the review doesn't appear until late in the year? Probably will just be overlooked, though.
