ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Former President Jimmy Carter took a swipe at rapper Kanye West's behavior at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, saying it was "completely uncalled for" and his punishment was to appear on the new Jay Leno show."

A couple days ago it was Meet The Parents, today it's The Truman Show. Who wants to take bets on whether his life will be an Adam Sandler movie or a Will Ferrell movie next?

I really don't think you can sing "I Always Feel Like Somebody's Watching Me" when people bitch about what you do onstage at the VMAs. I mean, isn't Obama the one whose private discussions are being leaked to the media?

That someone doesn't know the difference between Blondie and the DiVinyls?

That's what I thought, but then it bungles the lyric too!

drakeula vs the roflman (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 18 September 2009 14:27 (sixteen years ago)

wow there are a shitload of filesharing and lyrics sites that think "I Touch Myself" is by Blondie

Incidentally it annoys me to no end that the same internet that provides all these 17 year old kids with the limitless resources to make these jpegs somehow is impossible to provide the correct information on who sings incredibly popular song "I Touch Myself"

drakeula vs the roflman (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 18 September 2009 14:29 (sixteen years ago)

It's probably Weird Al, I'll just put Weird Al.

I wonder if the idea of Blondie singing "I Touch Myself" is based on Debbie Harry's "I Want That Man" more than anything else.

Great piece.

ENBB Otter's Pug Band Christmas (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:35 (sixteen years ago)

Not that any of these are excusable, but I wonder what percent of those tweets break down in these three categories

1. Genuine hateful assholes
2. Clueless idiots who don't know how offensive words are
3. 4chan 17-year-olds/Vice mag 20-year-olds/cankles 30-year-olds trying out racial slurs to amuse themselves and shock others

ENBB Otter's Pug Band Christmas (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:37 (sixteen years ago)

1. 40%
2. 50%
3. 10%

iirc flair (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:41 (sixteen years ago)

i'm more thinking

20%
30%
50%

Most racists are cowards and don't take it anywhere where their name is. Also "internet"

ENBB Otter's Pug Band Christmas (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:49 (sixteen years ago)

idk man, those tweets seemed dead serious to me, lots of 14 year old white kids who think that just because katt williams says "niggas are ruining it for us niggers" that it's okay for them to differentiate between the two which is a lot of what those tweets are about

iirc flair (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:51 (sixteen years ago)

i thought chris rock's "i love black people but i hate niggas" was still the earnest self-justifying racist's best friend, did katt supplant him?

goodship journey to lollipop (some dude), Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:55 (sixteen years ago)

tbh i couldn't remember if it was katt or chris (because i am a racist) but since i've seen much more katt stand up in my life than rock i just went with katt. i'm really not sure tho. i'm sure it's possible that katt did the same bit.

iirc flair (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:56 (sixteen years ago)

yeah that was a chris rock bit from like 15 years ago. I remember dudes in my '90s high school using it to justify they're own weird racism. I had a friend who said Michael Jordan was a black person and Shaquille O'Neal was, uh, the other.

ENBB Otter's Pug Band Christmas (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:59 (sixteen years ago)

lol jordan

goodship journey to lollipop (some dude), Thursday, 24 September 2009 05:01 (sixteen years ago)

i wonder if chris rock feels bad that a nation of white fucktards use his bit to excuse their bullshit prejudice

ENBB Otter's Pug Band Christmas (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 24 September 2009 05:01 (sixteen years ago)

that's why chappelle went bonkers apparantly

dude, if u knew people like this growing up why is it a surprise that maybe ppl on twitter -- perhaps even 90% of ppl dropping n-bombs on twitter -- might genuinely be 'being racist'?

bring back all banned legends (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 24 September 2009 05:40 (sixteen years ago)

yes, kanye is a black black guy. yes, taylor is a white white girl. yes, kanye is kind of a dick. yes, racist assholes will take advantage of kanye's dickishness to try to make some badly formed "point". but taking an informal collection of twitter searches for "kanye+nigger" and offering it up as proof of a trend has the same level of journalistic thoroughness and integrity that the NYT shows with it's frequent "Guava Jelly shows up in 4.3 million google searches".

I dunno; this all seems really predictable and sad and tired and i'm not sure i see it as much more than "harry allen: discovering there are idiots on twitter" excepting the reasonable but obvious point that outright racism truly ought to be at least as repugnant to any right-thinking person as threatening someone with direct violence. Claiming that this is noteworthy because we're "living in postracial times" is silly; Allen knows as well as anyone that nobody spread pixie dust post Obama. Shit's getting more and more racist on the daily with all this "not my country" nonsense. What am I missing in that piece that has greater import?
