not sure I've ever seen anyone celebrate "ignorance", in self-congratulation, as much as The Lex likes to

suppose other people do celebrate his ignorance, though

congratulations!!

what am I deluding myself about!

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

Lex, considering the last Muse single was basically a ket-rock remix of "Do Somethin'", how can it not be your #1 single of the year!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

Lex, like Geir, is part of the markings on the pitch that help us all play the ILM game.

The Muse single really isn't that good, people. You just all like that vocoder bit near the end that reminds you of Styx.

I find it hard to believe that someone somewhere won't pick Annie up, unless she's already laid down a bunch of tracks and they're rub.

i'll mitya halfway (mitya), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

the muse love is like the 'dakota' love from last year redux. a bunch of people going "ooooh, we're going to say this hitherto terrible indie rock band has made a great single" just to be contrary (and led in both cases by that racistjustice site which keeps sinking to increasingly embarrassing depths to avoid mentioning all the great pop which is coming out now, like ciara or sean paul or cassie).

basically a ket-rock remix of "Do Somethin'"

condemned by your own words! 'do somethin' does not need to have any kind of 'rock' remix. that would RUIN it.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't heard the Muse single. I really want something called Supermassive Black Hole to be awesome, but not as much as I want a record by Muse to be rubbish.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

"Supermassive Black Hole" just sounds like crappy Nine Inch Nails. It's not worth anyone getting excited about.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

a bunch of people going "ooooh, we're going to say this hitherto terrible indie rock band has made a great single" just to be contrary

NOTHING like the furtado love then.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

furtado wasn't terrible indie rock before - she was vaguely boring mor-folk. and she always seemed like she had potential. muse have always been abysmal, with nothing to suggest that they might ever not be abysmal (because no matter what directions they choose, they would always have that awful caterwauling voice over the top).

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

Both Muse AND Nellie F are rubbish. Annie is great. Ergo worst thread derailment ever.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

"Turn Out The Lights" > Annie and Muse's entire back catalogues combined. FACT.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

best furtado song > best annie song >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (&c &c &c) >>>> best muse song

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

it's not 'turn out the lights', don't be silly dom

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

Getting the names of songs correct: indie
Getting them wrong due to PASSION: pop

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

Plus Vue cinemas still use "Turn Off The Light" as one of the songs they play between the cinema door opening and the trailers starting.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

i actually have no idea what the correct title is! turn out or off? light or lights? who knows! whichever, it's not as good as 'no hay igual'

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

Everyhit says "Turn Off The Light", despite she fact she quite clearly sings "Turn Out The Lights". Maybe this distaste for style guiding was what attracted Timbo to her in the first place.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

MODS can we delete the last whatever x posts??

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

I played "Maneater" and "Turn Off The Light" back to back, "Turn Off The Light" WINS. What a bloody tune.

Annie, then. Those last few tracks of her WERE rubbish, it wouldn't surprise me if that's why she's been dropped!

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

I got sent a free copy of the 'wedding' 12". even braxe/falke remix couldn't save that one.

HPSTRKRFT (haitch), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

I still need to hear 'The Crush', 'Songs Remind Me Of You' and the other new one.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

How the fuck does Nelly Furtado have a career nowadays? Her last album sank like a motherfucking stone!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 21 July 2006 01:10 (nineteen years ago)

the Dom/Lex/Enrique kickaround here is hilarious!

and yeah the new Nellie F stuff - character & inspiration free PAP indeed

fandango (fandango), Friday, 21 July 2006 01:29 (nineteen years ago)

Steve, "The Crush" sounds like a particularly twee, retarded Go-Gos pastiche.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 21 July 2006 01:30 (nineteen years ago)

ALSO the reason that Lex hates Muse is because Lex is indie as fuck and Muse are a popular, #1 album having rock band with actual fans, and indie kids hate that.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 21 July 2006 01:31 (nineteen years ago)

hahahaha

HPSTRKRFT (haitch), Friday, 21 July 2006 01:44 (nineteen years ago)

"the muse love is like the 'dakota' love from last year redux. a bunch of people going "ooooh, we're going to say this hitherto terrible indie rock band has made a great single" just to be contrary"

:-(

Lex I think what's hindering your understanding of teh kidz is not understanding The O.C. soundtrack luv.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 21 July 2006 02:16 (nineteen years ago)

ALSO the reason that Lex hates Muse is because Lex is indie as fuck and Muse are a popular, #1 album having rock band with actual fans, and indie kids hate that.

I HATED THEM WHEN THEY WERE OBSCURE TOO! i hated muse before anyone else had heard of them. GRMPH.

Lex I think what's hindering your understanding of teh kidz is not understanding The O.C. soundtrack luv.

that's all stuff like hilarity duff and lindsay lohan though isn't it? and the odd coldplay song i assume. duff and lohan are ace, though no british teenager appears to like them.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:02 (nineteen years ago)

no british teenager appears to like them.

so ver kidz have got it wrong?!

nb, no, i don't think duff or lohan are really o.c. staples.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:04 (nineteen years ago)

oh, annie

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:04 (nineteen years ago)

i seriously don't get the muse or 'dakota' love though? they're not even significantly better than anything else on those bands' back catalogues - they're as appalling and dreadful as ever and if anything more of an argument that that sort of thing should be STAMPED OUT.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:04 (nineteen years ago)

i actually agree with lex here -- you just have to hate those bands on principle, and there wasn't anything special about 'dakota' (haven't heard the muse one but life is short).

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:07 (nineteen years ago)

Love of "Supermassive Black Hole" isn't like loving "Dakota". "Dakota" is a gem from a band who usually deserve to be hurt very badly, melted down and used to coat roads. Muse actually have several very entertaining singles, especially "Bliss" and "Hysteria".

oh, annie

Quoted for truth.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:14 (nineteen years ago)

how is 'dakota' a gem!!!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:15 (nineteen years ago)

It's affecting. I mean, to a human being rather than an other-fetishizing automaton like you Lex.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:17 (nineteen years ago)

that's racist

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:18 (nineteen years ago)

"Dakota" is good.

Honestly no agenda really, it is just a good song!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:19 (nineteen years ago)

Ronan is racist too, clearly.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:22 (nineteen years ago)

i'm speechless

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 21 July 2006 08:23 (nineteen years ago)

If we clink our wine glasses with our forks hard enough, will you give one though?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 July 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

And, yeah, Stereophonics had always been an ENEMY OF POP (TM), so "Dakota" love comes form a different place than Muse loving, what with them being a BOMBAST POP ROCK act and never having sung "Mr Writer".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 July 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

Mr Writer >>>>>>>>>> Dakota

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 21 July 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

worst derail ever

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 21 July 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know, there's some quality Lexbot action here.

stop moving. (cis), Friday, 21 July 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

"Dakota" is a gem from a band who usually deserve to be hurt very badly, melted down and used to coat roads.

Except that "Maybe Tomorrow" is also a genuinely good pop track.

That was the 1000th answer. Go Annie!

JoB (JoB), Friday, 21 July 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

loved dakota. brilliant tune. needs a JLC remix but then doesnt everything?

MEANWHILE to bring it back to Annie -

pisces (piscesx), Friday, 21 July 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

i am becoming wary of the phrase "genuinely good pop track" to justify these horrifying contrarianisms. it seems to me to be but one step away from "proper songs with a decent tune that the milkman/the man in the street/your mum can whistle" or other such regressive, conservative, backwards-thinking nonsense.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 21 July 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

can the 'dakota' lovers please justify how any song, no matter how good the tune or even arrangement, can possibly be listenable if it still has kelly jones's emphysematic walrus voice honking over the top of it?

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 21 July 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)
