Damn, I wanted to post Idris (Muhammad), but I couldn't decide whether he was ubiqitous enough! Between the two of you, you got both of Galt McDermot's guys posted,

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 6 January 2005 06:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i was actually thinking about Axelrod when i posted Idris, but maybe i was wrong. another big drummer whom my best friend even dated his daughter - Earl Palmer

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 6 January 2005 06:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Idris is on about every soul-jazz record ever made, so I'd say he's ubiquitous in some sense.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 6 January 2005 06:53 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost:
Matos beat you to it.

But it's seeming to me that the samples taken from those soul-jazz records makes the Idris case closed.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 6 January 2005 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Ari Hoenig is stupid, in a good way. He looks like a rocker and his technique looks kinda weird and primitive, but his jazz playing is hot and dirty and melodic. He records solo cds of himself playing actual tunes on the drumset in a non-gimmicky fashion.

Oh, um, Greg Bissonnette!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 6 January 2005 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah — for that matter, he's Stravinsky's favorite bassist and taught at my school.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Friday, 7 January 2005 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

So are you saying he's too good to be considered a mere sesssion man, NTI?

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 7 January 2005 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

No, he taught at MY school. :>

Little known fact - he's doing the bass playing in that stupid episode of Sex in the City where she's dating the jazz bassist.
