"Rest In Peace"

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 20:38 (nineteen years ago) link

Funny that dead rock & rap stars are sentimentalized this way more than country stars. A search for "hillbilly heaven" images turns up nothing but Tex Ritter records & vacation homes in the Ozarks. Kurt & Jimi, Pac & Biggie must be having more fun up there than Hank & Patsy.

briania (briania), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 21:13 (nineteen years ago) link

Yay, revival.
Who's the guy in the upper left corner of that last one?!

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:14 (nineteen years ago) link

looks like Marvin.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:15 (nineteen years ago) link

is there and ODB R.I.P. artwork out there yet? Missy Elliott's probably going to get an ODB mural airbrushed on her face for her next video

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:16 (nineteen years ago) link

I think it's Liberace, not Marvin.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:23 (nineteen years ago) link

Why is Marvin Gaye depicted as so much smaller than marginal talents like Left Eye and Big Pun???

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:30 (nineteen years ago) link

That's not Big Pun, that's Biggie!

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:33 (nineteen years ago) link

Big Pun is far right, I believe. In this configuration I believe Marvin (and Marley) are sort of "historical background."

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Why's Eazy E look like a Smurf!?

Also, who are the two between eazy and pun?

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:27 (nineteen years ago) link

oh, the guy must be Big L

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Shit - I wish I had a digital camera. There's a great collage-of-the-dead-country-music-stars painting at the dive bar across the street from my old house.

darin (darin), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 23:57 (nineteen years ago) link

Why's Eazy E look like a Smurf!?

Because he was a Smurf. Gangsta Smurf.

Also, who are the two between eazy and pun?

Selana?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:17 (nineteen years ago) link

One guy is conspicuous by his absence in those depictions of rock-n-roll heaven. The funny thing is, it's confirmed that he's up there:

briania (briania), Thursday, 2 December 2004 04:47 (nineteen years ago) link

Darinm please describe the dead country stars at that bar bear your old house. (You know Kevin Spacey is playing you? In a movie, I mean. And he's already ten years older than you were when you died. I don't want to see the movie or its poster.) The current Gretchen Wilson video has traumatized its song from mah mind. It's got gobs of black-and-white (filmwise; ethnically they're all white o course) dead people, in the audience and on stage with her. They don't sing along, just mouth admiring comments about her , and some play along (silently mebbe). Yes, they're all stars! Stars of the Grand Ol Opry! Al signifying,"Room for one more..."

don, Thursday, 2 December 2004 07:11 (nineteen years ago) link

briana, nobody likes a homo

actually i think he's in this one (that's upthread)

there should be a t-shirt of sid vicious helping kurt cobain to shoot up. while they are sitting on a cloud.

I would definitely put that on my wall!

Does anyone actually have a picture of the Legends Lounge poster that the original poster was referencing?
