I've noticed a lot of people say Scissor Girls when they mean to say Scissor Sisters.

>I always get Built to Spill and Guided by Voices mixed up.<

For me it was always Built to Spill and Shudder to Think.

And I think there are about four different techno guys named Amon or Tobin who I always think are the same person, plus one in Cibo Matto, but I forget their names right now.

Also, Atlanta Rhythm Section/Amazing Rhythm Aces always confounded me.

And yeah Jawbox/Jawbreaker; I will third or fourth or fifth that one.

There are many more, which I may remember eventually.

Mudvayne/Puddle of Mudd/Stereomud/Mushroomhead

I have no patience, however, for people who confused Rocket From the Tombs with Rocket From the Crypt. That makes no sense to me at all!!

doug watson (solid air), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I Mother Earth/Our Lady Peace

Symmetrically similar names aside, both bands were (are?) also fairly boring '90s grunge-progsters, both were from around Toronto, and both made music that was largely forgettable (altho OLP's minor hit "Superman's Dead" was enjoyably annoying.)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I always think of someone else when I see David Sylvian's name, but I don't know who. (NOT Syl Sylvain, although that seems like it would be a reasonable slip.)

Actually, I do have trouble keeping apart some of the NY Dolls/Dead Boys guys, and remembering who was in which band... Arthur Kane vs. Cheetah Chrome, etc.

Amon Tobin / Tobin Sprout
Imperial Teen / Imperial Drag. Both appeared then disappeared around the same time, both ex members or side projects of bigger bands, I still can't remember which was which.

udu wudu (udu wudu), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Amon Duul/Amon Duul II

Leee O'Gaddy (Leee), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

The lesson of this thread: Obviously, the idea that each and every band should be allowed to choose a name to express their individuality MUST BE ABANDONED IMMEDIATELY in favor of mandatory seriial numbers.

"Mystic Chords of Memory, you say? Afraid not! You're Artist #24830329 now and forevermore."

Curt (cgould), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Modest Mouse / Mouse On Mars

For a while I thought Jandek and Janeck Shaeffer were the same person, but I was disabused of that notion recently.
