The beat for Venus vs. Mars is kinda cool i suppose. The album is a total mess though.

Number None, Monday, 31 August 2009 21:29 (sixteen years ago)

An interesting mess?

do HOOS ever just steen into space and weep (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Monday, 31 August 2009 22:20 (sixteen years ago)

My opinion on what i've heard so far: At least it's conceivable U2 could have a big hat club.

what

do HOOS ever just steen into space and weep (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Monday, 31 August 2009 22:25 (sixteen years ago)

lol old boring folk still making music and people making a big deal out of it.

(the edge fella wears lots of hats.)

b hoy hoy (a hoy hoy), Monday, 31 August 2009 22:26 (sixteen years ago)

i thought you were suggesting the album somehow sounded like u2 and i was so happily confused

I think I'd prefer it if he'd stop making old man complains about hiphop hiphop records and made a u2 record, yeah.

thing about still following bands with fading talent is that it's usually only evident in one place - jay-z is a mediocre rapper who feels the need to constantly apologize for that fact with his "i'm old, been there done that" lyrics. i don't like being hit over the head repeatedly with the fact that he is old

stfuhut (k3vin k.), Monday, 31 August 2009 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

man this seems like yesterday ;_;

swizz beats song sounds like 'headsprung'

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 01:09 (sixteen years ago)

this is pretty bad. "off that" is growing on me a lot, though - even tho i still dislike the sentiment, it's got some nice lines and i'm basically of the opinion at this point that the faster jay raps the better the song's gonna be

stfuhut (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 01:26 (sixteen years ago)

wtf @ "forever young" tho

ojo, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 01:40 (sixteen years ago)

srsly, Forever Young pushes this album firmly into the gahbage pit. that track name, that guest star, that interpolation, that complete and pathetic lack of self-awareness. it's like him giving the final speech at the funeral of his rapping career. :(

methanietanner, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 02:01 (sixteen years ago)

the "interpretation" or whatever is awful but it's probably my second favorite track on the album just because i like the original song

stfuhut (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 02:13 (sixteen years ago)

d.o.a. thru off that is solid, rest i can do w/out

major lols @ forever young. my roommate & i just kinda looked at each other like o_O

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 12:51 (sixteen years ago)

didn't read the thread, is this really dropping on 9/11 lol

am0n, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 14:18 (sixteen years ago)

like the beat by swizz on "on to the next one"

i'm beasting off the riesling (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 17:41 (sixteen years ago)

j. cole is okay.

the beat to "already home" is real nice actually.

venus and mars is just unreal bad.

i'm beasting off the riesling (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 17:57 (sixteen years ago)

talking bout the beat or jay? cuz the beat is actually kinda nice, i like the cracked-out spacey feel, but jay is awful on it

king dom, come (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 17:59 (sixteen years ago)

no the beat, i just meant the beat to already home is a cool beat IMO, best one on the album so far by a mile

i'm beasting off the riesling (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 18:00 (sixteen years ago)

YIKES this beat to "hate" what the fuck is this!

it reminds me of when i took some leftover vicodin and fucked around with MTV Music Generator on the original playstation but not as good

track-by-track review by teh latimes' jeff weiss.

ojo, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 00:22 (sixteen years ago)

I like how he pedantically disputes Jay-Z's claim of ten #1 albums (which is correct) while snarking about "fact-checking"

R Gmail Still Down? (Remember Me) (some dude), Wednesday, 2 September 2009 02:14 (sixteen years ago)

obv they're not on the same page wrt the definition of an "album"

king dom, come (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 2 September 2009 02:45 (sixteen years ago)

it reminds me of when i took some leftover vicodin and fucked around with MTV Music Generator on the original playstation but not as good

ok sorry big hoos, i c&p'd from the times.

ojo, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 16:42 (sixteen years ago)

haha nah dude i'm not knocking your 100% correct attribution! sorry if it came off that way. i'm just mildly bemused when i see bloggers making it to bigger platforms

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 17:01 (sixteen years ago)

ugh that review is worse than the album

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Wednesday, 2 September 2009 17:01 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i figure most reviews of this will be unreadable. if i'm going to listen to this album in full at some point, it'll have to be a pure, personal experience between me, the music, and the bloated corpse of my youthful jay-z standom.

some dude, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 17:29 (sixteen years ago)

ttly agree re: off that. song is ok, concept is lolz considering jay being "on" grizzly bear

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 22:31 (sixteen years ago)

hahaha

king dom, come (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 2 September 2009 22:33 (sixteen years ago)

king dom, come (k3vin k.), Friday, 4 September 2009 02:07 (sixteen years ago)

such a weird feeling when he's rattling off those years...you're like "hm, he's really gonna name all them isn't he?"

king dom, come (k3vin k.), Friday, 4 September 2009 02:09 (sixteen years ago)

third verse also contains this gem
"in the environment in which i did it in"

king dom, come (k3vin k.), Friday, 4 September 2009 02:10 (sixteen years ago)

xp haha yea reminded (dur) me of wayne reciting the whole alphabet

johnny crunch, Friday, 4 September 2009 02:21 (sixteen years ago)

"Hater" sounds more like a Kanye song f/ Jay-Z than vice versa

flowers for algernod (The Reverend), Wednesday, 9 September 2009 19:56 (sixteen years ago)

it's sooo bad...it's like they had a dare to see who could be more annoying with their lame-ass word-stretching and vocal inflections

k3vin k., Wednesday, 9 September 2009 21:13 (sixteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

yeah i figure most reviews of this will be unreadable. if i'm going to listen to this album in full at some point, it'll have to be a pure, personal experience between me, the music, and the bloated corpse of my youthful jay-z standom.

^^ srs question, what song do you think Kanye was referring to when he said he did "probably one of the best hip-hop beats of all time" for this album -- i swear to god out of the 8 beats he did on BP3 "Run This Town" might actually be the closest thing to a realistic candidate

guccislamic deejihad (some dude), Monday, 28 September 2009 03:40 (sixteen years ago)

i bet its "hate"

truth bomber ginsburg (J0rdan S.), Monday, 28 September 2009 03:41 (sixteen years ago)
