I'm sure something could be done with the opening 5 seconds of this:

begging to be turned into a glacial cassie/teairra mari track imo

lex pretend, Sunday, 23 August 2009 20:54 (sixteen years ago)

Goddamit! I was going to suggest Menahan Street Band's 'Make the road by walking' because its really sample-worthy but I just found out Jay Z already used it. Argh-

Tom Ze - Dor e dor

Moka, Sunday, 23 August 2009 22:05 (sixteen years ago)

^ Both the intro and the wicked horn section... tho it might be hard getting a clean sample out of the horn section since he's always singing on top of it.

Moka, Sunday, 23 August 2009 22:06 (sixteen years ago)

Hate to do this to you:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4evP8wRk3ys

(though it sounds like it's been replayed rather than directly sampled)

chap, Sunday, 23 August 2009 22:17 (sixteen years ago)

fuuuuuuuuuck!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not being replayed, it's a sample lifted from 'Quero Sambal Meu Bem' from Tom Ze as well. He uses the same riff in both songs.

That's it. I'm dropping off of university to pursue my dream of becoming a producer.

Moka, Sunday, 23 August 2009 22:22 (sixteen years ago)

Sorry I meant 'Jimmy Renda-Se' not 'Quero samba meu bem'

Moka, Sunday, 23 August 2009 22:25 (sixteen years ago)

So Amerie's sampling Tom Ze and making videos based on "Blow Up"???? Gunnin for that indie love, huh. ;)

Chairmen of the Board's Skin I'm In and Finder's Keepers.

Van Halen - "Everybody Wants Some"

Parenthetical Grillz, Monday, 24 August 2009 04:23 (sixteen years ago)

This is a rad thread, btw.

Parenthetical Grillz, Monday, 24 August 2009 04:23 (sixteen years ago)

I don't know how there isn't a 20-minute cosmic beats+echo edit of 10cc's "I'm Not In Love" out there. (Maybe there is, but I haven't found it yet.)

Once I thought I was really clever and sampled the drum intro to Amon Duul II's "Archangels Thunderbird" and sped it up to a dnb-ish tempo and it sounded really familiar. Has this break already done the rounds or does it just sound like a bunch of others?

^ I would prob. sample "Wheel And Turn Me" from Blind Blake Vol. II

Also, "Get The Money (Uncle Scrooge's Money)" from Mousercise.

Sampled by A Tribe Called Quest on a 12" version of Bonita Applebaum, but would love to hear it in yet another context. A big fan of those cheap flute synths.

Marcos Valle - Parabens

Magnetic Fields - The Dreaming Moon

Several snippets from the intro and the vibraphone breaks would make a great edit.

Ok last one for the day, I promise. Mariah - 心臓の扉 (Shinzo No Tobira)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRgLhEGEetc

Great hooks throughout the song. No idea what kind of genre could find use in a sample like this one but would love to hear it anyways.

Moka, Wednesday, 17 March 2010 20:24 (sixteen years ago)

Ok I lied, but I promise this is the last one I'll post in months:

Jan Hammer - Don't You Know

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nntLbpBZ4B4

In the same vein as the Captain Beefheart and Dennis Wilson suggestions upthread (which I agree would make great samples).
